description
The 936 was Porsche's answer to the new 1976 Group 6 racing regulations. The racer doesn't have much in common with the Group 5 '935' car at all; the 936's engine is a 2.14 litre turbo 6 taken from the 1974 911 RSR. The chassis, transmission, and running gear were from the 917/30, and the body was a cross between the 917/10 and 908 Spyders spyder/can-am style to better suit LeMans. And this it did, winning in 1976, 1977 & 1981. Tamiya's RC model is of the earlier car, later 936/2s had a different rear wing sans side fins. Chassis is identical to the Countach's, whilst the wheels are recycled from Porsche 936 #1. (However unlike the Countach, the 936 cannot take the 7.2V humppack without amputating the driver's left arm!) Bodyset of Porsche 908 was available only as a sparepart, never an RC kit.(Description originally entered by Pandabear)
