I saw a video on YT once where they showed a bunch of old American cars in Cuba, and all of the self-engineered things they did to keep them running for  all of these years. I think the car in the first post came from Cuba.

Nice work making it a usable car again.

That is a crackup! I think you may be right. I have to say that the car was usable, in fact, it was rather remarkable for something with zero care taken in aligning anything. I was amazed at how well it worked.

Rear cage and arms came in from shapeways for this mess. Now I better iron out the details:

Are you going to do a youtube assembling this rear section pinto? I've got 2 hornets and I'd like to do this conversion to one of them when it's available, along with your front end conversion and keep the other completely standard.

It woukd be nice to see it all go together step by step. Plus reduce the chance of me messing it up

That's a good question. I wasn't intending on selling this as all I am building this for is to validate my double wishbone rear suspension SuperFly V3. I do not expect this to be a sturdy build in the least. That said, if you want it, I can make that happen. I think the harder part is cutting the axles & axle tubes and that part was already done, haha!

Well the cage has been installed. Weirdly, it fit. Was not expecting that. Now on to the ancillary parts and then I can figure out how the rear shocks will mount. Oh and the rear arms which are also printed, are supported by bearings so this should be smooth.

Made this brace to attach the upper cage to the hornet chassis and give the car an upper shock mounting point. Off to shapeways and now I can focus on the front cage.

On a related note, I have learned all I needed from this build to make Superfly V3. Now for a double wishbone rear end on that car and then on to project "The sand scorcher has the most annoying electronics box in history and now I will never need to take the body off again".

I have got the rear end, body mount and shock mount all done. Here is where we are for now.

Ball bearing supported swing arm:

Printed arms with rere style dual bearing:

Everything mocked up

I just made a set of nerf bars and a front subframe. Should have them in s few weeks. I will have the rear end completed tonight. I am happy this is nearing completion.

Next I need to install this in the back:

If you think this will be just sitting in the back lounging about, you would be wrong. I'lI make this thing work.

Amazing work as always pinto. That buggy will handle so well when finished. I'm really jealous of that engine too. I put a self assembly vw unit on the back of my baja champ and love it but that is something else. To have it moving as well will be brilliant.

Yes the handling will be like going from a Ford Model T to a Model A. LOL. No you are right, I have driven it and it is quite good, for what it is. I am hoping the engine comes out well. All the stuff I am doing on here is to validate other projects. This is how a mess like this happens:

So I don't know why this was moved here as it is clearly a project no one will ever know. I will rant elsewhere about this. Anyway, project hardcorenet was painted and is now looking great! All wheels are custom as I altered the offset to make the car look correct. This thing runs like a champ though not even on the same planet as SuperFly 2. I need to detail it and then clearcoat the whole car. It really has come out nice.

Also acceptable! Just want to see more of the car is all :D

No i know what you mean. I feel the same way hahaha! I added decals and the final clear coats on Saturday. Painted up the driver last night as well as the spot lights. I will do a complete video on this on my Youtube channel as this car has gotten remarkably little air time despite it being the foundation of Superfly 2 and the new Sand Scorcher chassis.

Finally, project Hardcorenet is basically complete. It is still going to be getting a scale 2.3L Ford Motor in the rear but that is a bit off. I will do a full walk though and drive on my YouTube channel soon!

That looks pretty darn cool, but I am scratching my head at that servo saver and links job there???!@!! I think I need to send you a Super Champ servo saver and have you fit it or perhaps an old school Kimbrough servo saver???

Lol it was like that from the beginning. It is so hack that I want to leave it be.
