Picture aspect ratio

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I've recently discovered that sometimes embedded pictures are changing their aspect ratio depending on the size of the browser window. This happens to me both on Firefox 50.0.2 on Windows 7, as well as on my Lumia 620 mobile phone. The squished look can be quite distracting.

Please see this thread as an example, try by yourself by reducing the browser window width:

While in this thread, all pictures are shown in the correct aspect ratio EDIT: and won't resize themselves:

Any ideas?

The pics in that first thread linked to are the only ones I can get out of proportion in 6 threads I've looked at - chances are it's either a photobucket issue or something specific about those pictures.

Have a look for more threads by the same author and see if it does it to those too.

Edit: the pics in this thread distort when window is resized too;

From the limited tests I've done, it seems to be a photobucket/Mongoose1983 issue, as these are ok (Firefox/Win 7);

Yes, you're correct, my bad. Kontemax' pictures do resize the correct way.

I had a quick check on Photobucket.com for settings and photo editing, but I couldn't find anything about scaling/resizing of embedded pictures. I wonder if there's anything about the BB-code used in Mongoose's pictures? Since there's no more oldschool BB-code editor, it's hard to tell how the forum software deals with the pictures.

Here's the text from the first pic in that first thread you linked to - I don't use PB so can't help on that score, sorry;

style="margin-top:0px;width:773.333px;height:580px;" width="773">
</p>

I've edited it from one long line of text into three, but otherwise it's 'as written'

Thanks! :)

EDIT: I'll give it a try by myself, by using the BB-code that Photobucket supplies for Mongoose's picture:

Let's see how it scales... testing testing.

EDIT2: Seems to scale just fine.

No worries - does the same thing in Chrome, in case you were wondering ;)

And another try with the HTML code that Photobucket supplies:

<a href="http://s374.photobucket.com/user/erich123/media/RC%20sale%20and%20trade/IMG_8906_zpsligmsnrv.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo189/erich123/RC%20sale%20and%20trade/IMG_8906_zpsligmsnrv.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_8906_zpsligmsnrv.jpg"/></a>

Testing....

EDIT: No support for HTML.

Another test, using the "direct" link:

IMG_8906_zpsligmsnrv.jpg

Clicking on this behaves different than Mongoose's pictures.

When on my laptop my pictures look fine. But when using the cellphone they don't.

I'm using photobucket and a Canon Powershot ELPH15015.

Maybe we can help... What method do you use to embed your PB pictures into your TC posts?

Cheers, GregM

Thanks Greg,

I basically copy-paste my pictures here in TC, and it works fine all the time.

I'm not looking to fix anything actually, as I plan to leave the club hopefully by the end of this month.

You have a good Friday! :)

Seriously? Come on, you don't have to leave, that would be too bad. I'd miss you, and I'm sure many others will do as well!

Anyway, I would suggest using this link method for embedding PB pictures into TC forum posts:

This is how I embed mine. Hopefully this helps keeping the aspect ratio straight.

I noticed that some pictures are getting squished when changing the browser's window width.

This changes the aspect ratio of these pictures, so they look distorted.

E. g. in this thread:

Browser: Firefox 54.0

OS: Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

(they will also look squished when viewed from a mobile phone, e.g. Lumia 620.)

Another member had this a while back, it turned out to be something like using the wrong link for the picture

Edit: Sound familiar?

This time, the pics are hosted by Google.

I'd noticed that in my thread too. I've been and tweaked the links to the images. Hopefully they'll be better now.

I can't change the image links in quotes though.
