Quarryman 0 Posted October 10, 2014 Hi I need som help with picking right motor and pinion, part numbers will be helpfull. I currently own a Super Fighter With DT-02 chassis, i've mounted ball bearings all over, and fitted with a RS540 Sport tuned. I want more speed I know that it's not recommended with a larger motor than the sport tuned, but in different threads in this forum I can see that it works anyway.. I would like to have a Tamiya motor, i like to use original parts all over. Of all the different motors from Tamiya, the super Stock series, GT tuned, Torque tuned and so on, wich one should i use, and with wich pinion? As you can see, im new to this, started this hobby couple of months ago, and DT 02 is my entry kit, after doing that kit i while, i am gonna upgrade to a more pro chassis. Thankfull for answers! (sorry if my English is bad..)
skip665 169 Posted October 10, 2014 Welcome I have used a Superstock RZ in my DT-02 Holiday Buggy and it was plenty fast! If you want to stick with brushed motors and Tamiya that is what I would go for. Are you using a LiPo battery or an NiMh? A good increase in power (and runtime) can be had by making the switch. Quarryman 0 Posted October 10, 2014 Think i'm gonna try RZ, winter is coming to Norway now, so i have plenty of time to Upgrade. I use NiMh batteries, runtime is ok, but more Power would be Nice. With LiPo, do I need new ECS and motor?
skip665 169 Posted October 10, 2014 Any motor is generally fine on LiPo - but depending on your ESC you might need an additional LiPo low-voltage alarm or a new ESC altogether with a low-voltage cut off built-in. What ESC do you have currently? RZ is a good motor
Quarryman 0 Posted October 10, 2014 I think I got the TEU101BK, it came with that one I saw the TBLE02 on Ebay, and it was pretty cheap too, is that one good for LiPo
GregM 1109 Posted October 10, 2014 The TBLE-02S needs an additional LiPo cutoff/alarm, just like the TEU-range of speed controllers. Both the TBLE-02S and the TEU-101/104/105BK have the same turn limits on brushed motors, which means they're approved up to the GT Tuned motor, but not for the SuperStock range of motors. shenlonco 1156 Posted October 10, 2014 get a cheap brushless system for like $50 to 60 on e-bay with a 3000 to 3300KV motor time you buy the Tamiya motor and new esc you will spend more than if buying a brushless system.
Quarryman 0 Posted October 15, 2014 Is the GT Tuned much faster than the Sport tuned? Anyone tried to meassure speed in km/h
SteveU30 1011 Posted October 15, 2014 I have these in my DT-02 and it's awesome (cheap combo too)! https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__36054__Turnigy_5000mAh_2S1P_7_4v_30C_hardcase_pack_ROAR_APPROVED_EU_Warehouse_.html http://banzaihobby.com/radio-control/motors-brushless-motors-esc/tamiya-motors-esc/tamiya-rc-super-stock-motor-rz-lay-down-brush http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RC-Model-QUICRUN-WP1060-R-C-Hobby-Brushed-Motor-ESC-Speed-Controllers-SE025-/251646713373?pt=UK_ToysGames_RadioControlled_JN&hash=item3a97501e1d Charger wise a lot of people seem to be buying this as it's the latest tech: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__45501__X100_AC_DC_100W_Touch_Screen_Charger_EU_Plug_.html

Quarryman 0 Posted October 27, 2014 GT Tuned is on its way from Japan for DT-02 But, do i need to change pinion? I've only got the 17T that came with the car at home? Does 19T improve max speed? Or will it wreck something in the gearbox?
steelo 93 Posted October 29, 2014 You would have less torque but more top end speed with a 19t. I would go with a smaller pinion with a 'faster'motor to avoid thermal issues.
waterbok 1282 Posted October 30, 2014 Get a steel pinion if you plan to run it a lot. 17T works best on faster motors. Put foam in the tires and some weight in the front.
