Kyosho Tomahawk rere'd

Recommended Posts

Nice!

Is this pretty much the same chassis as the Scorpion?

I'm pining for an original Optima ReRe.

Excellent. Definitely getting one (maybe two).

Yonez, yes it shares the same basic chassis design as the Scorpion and Beetle.

Chassis is called the "Circuit 1000 series". See here for small blurb by VintageRCWeb: http://www.vintagercweb.com/advance.html

Edit: Apparently Kyosho is pleased with the sales of the Scorpion and Beetle. Would never have expected to see the Tomahawk otherwise.

The Tomahawk is the only non Tamiya I've ever really really wanted so I'm VERY happy to see this :)

Optima would have to be a big chance now, especially if whats written above is true.

Optima sales ,I suspect, would be very healthy.

Who knows me knows that I hate Kyosho but Tomahawk probably is one of the few Kyosho I could buy with the Maxxum FF.

I hope they will rerelease the Maxxum FF one day.

It is a stunner! Happy to see Kyosho giving everybody re-releases, too :)

If I did not have so many 2WD runners already, it would have been a great time to get into a non-Tamiya...

Marvellous news and, to be honest, not entirely unexpected. I did think it would arrive for the Shizuoka show but admitedly was panicing a bit when there had been no news from Kyosho up until yesterday.

The question now is, will they plow on and re-release another chassis? Considering how impressive a performer the 2014 Scorpion is you would think they could get a modernised Optima re-release to be even more impressive.

Before they do that though, I do hope they bring back a Turbo Scorpion, featuring as standard all of the modern hop-ups that they offered for the re-release last year, and decorated with the original Turbo decals, flared upper body, and white tub. Oh yes, and not forgetting the tweaked roof too. :)

Original rear-motor chassis, but with belt drive, 48-pitch gears, a slipper on the top shaft, and better steering linkage... I can see it... although, if they did that, I'd skip the Optima and wait for a Javelin. :)

I would still like to see it come back with a chain, albeit a nice modern take on the idea. Then they can offer a belt as part of a set of hop-ups. :)

I do feel optimistic that the Optima re-re is in the pipeline, but we might have to wait another 12 months for it to arrive.

Now this one interests me, the Scorpion tempted me / as did the Beetle but not enough to part with the hard earned - this however is seriously making me want to own a Kyosho (a first for me)

It really is a great looking buggy, as the official video for the original demonstrates.

Nice to see that, just like the new Scorpion, this re-release seems to come with an improved driver figure.

Prediction: I think the Optima will be re-released in 2016, or maybe 2017. I think it will be belt driven, not chain. There is a reason why the re-release of the Scorpion includes an improved gearbox using 48P gears and stock gear differential: Mild brushless motor support and lessons learned over the years. A belt is more efficient and can handle brushless power just fine, yet still be "hidden" away so it is not obvious that the re-release is different from the original.

I think Kyosho will call it the "Optima 2016" even though it will have a belt, rather than re-release the Optima Mid, etc.. The Optima started it all and Kyosho will want to keep it vintage. The original body will be used with perhaps minor tweaking. Likely a slipper will be added, like markbt73 said, and it will accommodate LiPo packs. Kyosho will say "It represents the styling of the original release, but with modern updates and improvements for today's electronics." Which is perfect because it will be just like the Scorpion 2014.

Then, in 2017 (or 2018), the Javelin will be released. Same basic chassis design as the Optima. The roll cage will be updated with tougher plastics to withstand rollovers better. Multiple roll cage colors will be offered as options.

I think that will conclude Kyosho's re-release plans. All of this is part of Kyosho's 50th anniversary, so re-releasing anything newer like the Ultima series would not be enough of a differentiator when compared to today's Ultima's. I mean, my Turbo Ultima looks a lot like the Ultima RB6 with the body off. Too similar to bother re-re'ing.

I can't say that I was ever really interested in Kyosho cars when the Tamiya phase was on strong in the 1980's. But having said that I'm aware that their handling is is excellent as is their quality and that Tomahawk is real eye catcher!! Those wheels and body have me looking to expand my shelf space for runners. Thanks Kyosho.

Here is video of one fellow that preempted this new release.

I don't know why I can't stop drooling since I saw those pics... My face is paralysed and stuck in the smiling position. I might have to change my user name to craving4kyosho.

I'd like to see some vintage gas in the future...

Me too. Mint Las Vegas, Burns, Stinger MK2, USA-1... badword, even a Rampage is better than nothing.

Trust me, I'm just another muppet with no knowledge whatsoever. But it is fun to dream. I always wanted an Optima when I was young, but couldn't afford it back then. Now I have a Turbo Optima in parts I got from eBay to rebuild someday, but having a re-re would be awesome.

And yes, I would love to see modern versions of the vintage gassers, like the Assault, Stinger, etc. Just not sure how committed Kyosho is on the re-re thing. Maybe they will go crazy and do most of them like Tamiya has done.

From a manufacturing perspective, it's very feasible to produce similar vehicles that share the same chassis.

The current chassis line included the Scorpion, Beetle, Tomahawk, and Sidewinder. Given the trend, the Sidewinder is most likely to be the next re-re. That will exhaust the Circuit 1000 series.

The next most popular is the Optima, which also had subsequent models based on the same chassis (Gold Optima, Turbo Optima, Javelin, Salute). It fits the business model of the Circuit 100o re-re's. That would be a profitable venture for Kyosho, as was proven the the last 3 re-re's.

Hopefully Kyosho is listening to the masses and will re-re a few vehicles from the Optima line of buggies.
