best price for a sensored BL motor?

Recommended Posts

So I have some spare cash in pp and want to get a brush less motor to use with my tamiya tble02 esc. Saw some mention of a 13.5t at hobbyking for £16 (i guess this was plus delivery) back last September, but the best I can seem to find now is about £27 (delivered) from eBay or about £23 + delivery from hobbyking. Considering the low price of oil, low inflation and the state of the pound that's quite a jump in 6 months.

Any other sources I should check for 11.5, 12.5 and 13.5t motors?

Also interested in this - I have a TBLE02 and the genunie Tamiya motors seem a tad expensive (£30+!) even from Banzai. I may take the plunge, just so I can have an all-Tamiya setup, but there used to be loads of BL motors going cheap on the internet and the supply seems to have dried up - or I'm looking in the wrong places.

Hobbyking

etc...

I believe it's because I have some spare cash and I am looking to buy.

Same thing happens when I go to buy a 1:1 car, someone just knows I think :)

I'll be interested also. I am sure I bought a 10.5T from hobbyking for about £15 a few months back.

Non-sensored or Sensorless BL motors are about 16 UK pounds at HobbyKing..

Sensored motors are approx. 22 UK Pounds, so still very good value..

Plus post...then things start creeping towards the £30 mark where you may just as well get a Tamiya motor from Banzai and throw some other goodies into the mix (we all like goodies!)

I guess it just goes to show how fine the line is (or how tight we are as consumers). That few ££ makes a difference. A Turnigy sensored motor used to be under £20 - with Hobbyking postage being nearly £5 on a domestic service it's now too close.

Just wondered if there were any other alternatives - even 'unbranded' ones - from the far reaches of the world which were cheap and cheerful.

Best I can find is £27.77 posted for a neewer or £28.30 for a hobbywing which would be worth the extra 60p IMO, both are from Hong Kong so postage and warranty would be a lottery. When I saw that someone had a turnigy for £16 (would be about £21 with post from hobbyking) I was wondering what's going on. As this will be an experiment with the tamiya ESC I wanted to keep spend to a minimum.

I found a few of the Speed Passion sensored motors (13.5 and 10.5t) on RCmart currently reduced too - the shipping combined makes them work out at around the £30 mark. They probably have quite a reputable name?

There were loads of 3.5t ones going cheap a couple of weeks ago but that seemed a bit mad for me

Modelsport has the excellent Speed Passion motors in various winds for just over £30, with no import duty issues, and delivery in a matter of days at UK domestic postal rates, or no postage at all if you are in the area and collect it yourself.

Ended up with a 10.5T sensored from Tamiya via Banzai. Bit of brand-whoring going on there, but it was also just £29, and will be plug-and-play with my TBLE02.

I know they say that TBLE02 will run a 10.5T but there are a number of people who report thermalling with lower than 13.5T when used in a buggy off road. What's your's going in and where are you going to use it? i'd be interested as I've still not bitten the bullet on this yet.

45063 Is your friend here. It's a fan for the TBLE-02s. I've not experienced any issues running without it yet, but the truck I have the ESC and a 10.5t motor has good airflow to the electrics.

I intend to move the setup to a buggy though so will see how it goes then.

The trouble with 45063 is that he is quite a tall friend with a tendency towards claustrophobia. Fitting him in a spacious touring car or truck shell is simplicity itself. However persuading him to sit comfortably in a buggy might be more of a challenge.

This is going in a TL01 rally setup, so won't be geared for top speed. Shouldn't hang about with 10.5T anyway!

If it doesn't work out i have a Speed Passion esc which will accommodate the bi motor and will shelf the TBLE02 for the meantime.

I want this setup for my next project which will either be a novafox, supershot or buggy champ none of which have much space for a fan so I think a 12.5 will be my maximum or more than likely a 13.5t.

However I may be able to fashion my own that is less chunky.

I went for a Turnigy Trackstar 13.5T in the end, was about £24 in the end. Also ordered a Trackstar Superstock ESC and Motor Combo for my younger boy and 2 4000mah Zippy hardcase lipos for him too. That's my spending done for a few weeks until my 40th and hopefully I will get something to put the TBLE02 and Trackstar into permanently (they will get a test run in something else just to make sure they are working properly).
