Hello all. I have been a very occasional lurker here having been a frustrated wannabe Tamiya R/C-er in my childhood during the 80s.
Around 12 years ago I tentatively got into the hobby, picking up a Baja Champ however it was always the classics I was yearning for and I ended up getting rid of it.
Started browsing here again a month or so ago (and I now blame you all for decimating my bank balance as you will soon find out!) and noticed that Tamiya had re-released a load of the classics. Oh mama, that was the mother lode right there - in the past month I have amassed kits for the Hornet (metallic), Buggy Champ (Silver), Novafox, Fighting Buggy, Egress, Avante, RC10 Classic and it's a near certainty that as soon as funds replenish then a Frog, Grasshopper and Kyosho Scorpion classic will be arriving (although I'm heading for an early divorce just saying this).
Anyway I also had a question. I really like the classics and am currently on holiday in Thailand (currently in Chiang Mai). I happened across an R/C shop today (mostly having Tamiya on road stock) but he did have some genuine vintage stuff out the back. One of the cars he had was a NIB Kyosho Turbo Scorpion. This was something like 30 years old so not a re-release. The guy did want 15,000 Thai Baht for it (around £300) - does anyone know how that compares with recent NIB sales as I couldn't find out more. He didn't have any Tamiya vintage kits - there was a 'Ninja' and also a 'Samurai' kit which looked pretty cool and similar design to Tamiya but wasn't Tamiya and another one (non Tamiya but I can't remember the name sorry) but that box was pretty battered.
Will try and get back there sometime tomorrow before I leave for Hong Kong on Tuesday and grab some pics.
Finally, I wanted to add that the knowledge and experience on these forums is amazing - I have learned so much in the short time I have been on here so much appreciated, this is a terrific resource.
I'm located in South West London by the way.
Cheers
Ryan
Edit having googled things it looks like the Samurai and Ninja cars are both from a company called Marui as I recognise the box art from Google images.
And I now think the other car kit was a Kyosho 'Rocky' but I'm not sure as the box was battered. I recall the buggy being blue and yellow
