Tamiya 105BK esc

Recommended Posts

I have one of these and the brakes are terrible. You have to pull back on the throttle twice to get instant reverse, anywy of setting it so that it's only once?

cheers

Nope, not possible, since the double tap is a feature, which goes for all Tamita ESCs to protect the gears. You can however disable reverse completely.

The brakes are bad because you only get 50% power in reverse on Tamiyas later ESC, including braking. I actually like the double tap because you can brake for as long as you want without going into reverse.

I must admit when I got back into Tamiya again and played with my first Tamiya ESC I thought it was odd and annoying but when I realised why and got used to it it made sense. As Crispy says I now find the DT nicer and you can use the ESC brake as a proper brake which I find makes driving a little smoother, but then you have the next podge backwards on the control for that old school MSC handbrake turn

I never could figure out why the 50% power in reverse thing? Doesn't make any sense to me. I had a TEU105 fitted to a CC01 for a while as it was using a crawler motor and only used for trail running, the slower reverse wasn't an issue. Until one day I was attempting a 3 point turn in a tight spot that involved reversing up a slope... the 105 couldnt do it! It didn't have enough power to reverse up the same slope id just driven forwards up so it kept stalling! Swapped it out of there sharpish.

I prefer the old TEU101, you can have a lot more fun with that. If only it included a BEC.

The brakes were bad because the default reverse setting on my code core tx is set to 48%, after talking to Modelsport today they were able to find how how to correct it, brakes much better now!
