Pull out your measuring stick and check the wheebases again. touring cars are 257mm and the buggys are 277mm (20mm difference). The DF01/TA01 tub is 20mm longer than the TA02 tub.

Both the DF01 Hummer group and the DF01 buggy group are all DF01s.

my measuring stick is still safely in its cave. :) the sizes quoted are straight from the guide book and yes they dont even remain consistant? according to it all the ta01 and ta02 are 260mm the ta02w is 256mm but the 300zx is 258mm? go figure? i also kinda generilized the width's as most would want to know the width for fitting bodyshells, instead of Tamiya's "track" measurements.

this is what i was after tho,the most accurate specs in one place so please add and il edit the orig post with all the findings.

Hunter Zero, that comparison is great and the pics help out alot, what i wanted to acheive was a post that would be easy to find using the search function.Bluefoots guide is fantastic...if you know/remember where to look :) so its really helpful to include the link, cheers for that.

also any one confirm the buggy drive shaft legnth? im 99% sure it was 70mm

also i should be able to maybe group some parts in the descriptions with the part number to help if you want to hop up or build a chassis from parts.

closest i can see is an M04L its 240mm stock...fit TL01 arms F+R and you got 190mm wide...poss tinker with rear upright/wishbone and get your extra 5mm?

or poss have a look at using TL01 LA/RA (long arm/rally arm) wishbones on M04L.

the rear wishbone could be reversed to give extra wheelbase?

not 100% on wheelbase youll get but i know they fit ,the TL01 and M chassis have same mounting set up for arms.

Great thread back from the dead... :)

I'm a little confused reading this and trying to gauge what's needed for my TA02SW (Taisan Porsche). Perhaps somebody can clear it up for me?

TA02

..wheelbase 257mm width F+R 190mm

TA02W

..wheelbase 257mm width F+R 200mm

TA02SW

..wheelbase 236mm width 190mm front 200mm rear

So assuming the above is approximately correct... what UJ's would I use for the rear of my TA02SW? On face value they need to be >38mm (200>190) but the only TA02W UJ's I can find explicitly state they for the front. Am I missing something before I jump in? Does the front "W" hardware work on the rear as well or is there a different part number? I've never built one of these.

TIA.

I'm very sure that the 200mm rear width is made up by using the 2 piece wheel sets (26mm front and 30mm rear) and the rear wheel is arranged for the larger rear offset option.

TA02W uses TA01 front knuckle (red) with a TA02 lower arm and the longer TA01 Uni Shaft (2x 1150 bearings).

TA02SW uses TA02 front knuckle (blue) with a TA02 lower arm and a regular TA02 Uni Shaft (big inner bearing and 1260 outer bearing). The extra track width on the TA02SW is made up with the wheel set.

Thank you sir that's very helpful (as usual coming from you Mark) and makes for a standard 4x4 setup for me, cheers.

Hi

Does anynody knows if there are existing a front universals shaft for TA02 knuckle which is shorter than the original Tamiya (43mm). I made a full alloy conversion of my TA02 but know the front universal shafts from Tamiya are too long. I could manage to fit an alloy TA01 knuckle and use a rear universal shaft which is shorter (39mm) and has other bearings.

Sounds like a combination of TA01 lower arm and TA02 steering knuckle. This would make the TA02 shaft too long to fit.

My guess is a mix of 3Racing or Yeah Racing and other brand alloy where they don't seem to recognise a difference between a TA01 and a TA02, and their TA02 upgrade sets are really TA01 parts. Yeah Racing lower arm and GPM steering knuckle perhaps?

Hi TA-Mark

Yes I have Yeah racing lower arms and GMP knuckles. Now I ordered the universal shaft from Yeah RACING (CC001-015BK). This one is assembly one and I will try to use shorter shafts (39 mm) from a TA04 universal shaft (53506). I hope that works. What do you think about that.

By the way: How to avoid too much axial clearance between the step screws and the front knuckle. When I Tighten the step screw you can move the knuckle up and down too much in my opinion. Do you use 850 bearings (ball, metal or plastic) for that? between the step screw and the knuckle (inside or outside).

Use a bearing and try and get some aluminium king pins to suit, they'll be a bit better. You can shim it further as required.

You have the wrong kingpins for the c-hub and steering knuckle combination. Try using the Tamiya lightweight hollow kingpins #53157.

The combination of the TA01 lower arm and TA02 steering knuckle will make the front track narrower. This may also affect steering throw and steering geometries. This is why it's important to use all the parts from the same brand. Yeah Racing and 3 Racing only make TA01 parts, and mislabel that they are for TA02. I've emailed this point to them several times and only get stupid replies that make no sense.
