Recommended Posts

I but this in the Kyosho forum but then just saw this ore active forum...sorry for tne double post.

My son really wants me to get my childhood BB up and running but the tires and beyond shot (they look melted!).

I am lost as to what options are out there and can't seem to find the right information even with searching.

Can anyone help? Thanks a lot!

Would it be possible for you to remove one of the tyres, and measure the diameter and width of the rim/wheel?

From there we may be able to give you some alternatives...

i think you need something like the Proline Monster Mashers . As far as i can remember the Big Brute use's a 2.2 inch wheels - someone correct me if i'am wrong though ?

Thanks for the info. The BB wheels are closer to 2.6 inches

The rims themselves might be a little wide for modern 2.2 truck tyres. Normally they come in at 50mm wide, which would leave things all awkward looking.

You should be able to get some modernish 2.2 truck rims on there by replacing the drive hub disk thing with some 12mm hexes and using common rims like Blitzer rears all around and Proline tyres mentioned above. Good stuff, those.

The original Brute tyres are unique to it (and the nitro version, which I think they sold 3 of lol). All the other K 2WD trucks had taller, skinnier (and less realistic) rubber.

A modern 2.2 tire might stretch over a 2.6 rim . If not your only option is to swop rims as said .

So how do I know if the hexes will fit the BB's shafts?

These are the closest in size and look I have found.

They'd do! They're quite large, so you'd not be missing much size.

The Brute is pin drive, so fitting hexes should not be too big of a deal. I am not sure if the axles are 5 or 6 mm, so some drilling might be needed. I'll pull a wheel off mine today and spot the problems.

Ok, Traxxxas Stampede / Slash, etc 2WD narrow (rear) hexes clip on. I tried my front axle as I have Thorp axles in the rear.

You will also need to grab a bag of 5mm i.d. shims, or a few... The stock adapters seat a lot further down onto the axle, it would seem and fitting the Traxxas hex results in a bunch of free play. Maybe even a little 850 size bushing would even fit without binding?

Also, not being sure of the back spacing on those HSP rims, and since you are doing down in size, I'd be looking more toward the Tamiya Monster Racer (Super BlackFoot, Blackfoot X, etc) rear rims, or a set of Wild Dagger style, just to be sure you'll clear the suspension that normally sits inside the rim.

Thanks so much for the info! I really appreciate it. I am having a hard time finding a Tamiya tire and Wheel combo the right size....

Those big old HSP tyres you found are available as a tyre only set, there was talk of them on a monster truck FB group I am in a little while ago. They'll be as close as you can get these days, everything is horribly narrow now...

As for the Twin Det. rims, should be able to grab those pretty easily. Hope it all works out for you :)

Oh, so you are saying to buy those tires by themselves and get twin det. Rims? What are they? Oh rims for the Twin Detinator? You think these would be a better fit? I can't seem to find anh.

Would these hex's work? They look pretty thin.

Very interesting. As far as I understand the Mud Thashers are the tallest 2.2 tires available. Are they the exact same height as the Kyosho Big Brute tires?
