  1. So I had the final chassis design made up in Aluminium... https://www.dropbox.com/s/khyaiqckhdhj61c/DSCF0952.JPG?dl=0 Then the electronics started... This is a dual battery, dual brushless set up... So 2x brushless ESC and 2x brushless 4000kV motors, upgraded to 21T spur gears. https://www.dropbox.com/s/sv6414gkkmgit78/DSCF1470.JPG?dl=0 Ok, seems I have reached the limit for photo uploads for the moment... The bumpers are from an HPI Stampede I believe, with some judicious use of some hard rubber spacers. Shocks are Gmade XD Piggyback Shock 93mm with upgraded springs. https://www.dropbox.com/s/d5vm1gluywevfgb/DSCF1471.JPG?dl=0 and finally a Dodge Charger body shell... https://www.dropbox.com/s/onqzmeqkqgr6fg2/DSCF1474.JPG?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/889m2qll7elswpv/DSCF1476.JPG?dl=0 She runs very well but is heavy! so she does not wheelie, however the back end bottoms out everytime I open the throtte, regardless of if she is moving or not... So either needs stiffer rear springs or may try to add a second set of shocks at the rear to counter act that drop... suggestions? I also seem to break the left front axle a lot... think that may just be me needing to learn to drive a bit more carefully... Are the CR-01 axles the same size or any stronger than the TL-01 axles? When I have the axle repaired (again) I will try to get a video of her running. Hope you guys enjoy looking as much as I enjoyed building her. Cheers Sel
  2. HI Guys, Firstly appologies this is going over a couple of posts but have a few piccies... (picks are small link will take you to larger images) I questioned you loads a couple of years ago when I started modding my Double Blaze/ Twin Detonator/ Wild Dagger that I purchased cheap second hand... https://www.dropbox.com/s/2zdqiv1sx0d5s26/DSCF0921.JPG?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/2520bxva4audmp2/DSCF0924.JPG?dl=0 All I can say is thank you guys for all your advise and help. As you can see it wasnt in bad shape but i wanted to upgrade... so I started playing with the chassis first... https://www.dropbox.com/s/c46pnxb9hr2xv70/DSCF0940.JPG?dl=0 The above was an mdf mock up to check how the new chassis fit and see what alterations needed to be done, as you can see I increased the wheel base a little...
  3. Hi Guys, I am after picking the brains of you with much more experience than me... I am considering doing a scratch build Rock Racer, its only at the consideration stage currently but I have been looking around and have seen the posts about the Yeti and Twin Hammer, which both have a solid axle at the rear as opposed to the baja buggies which have independant rear suspension. So my question is what difference does a solid axle make over a double wishbone system? What are the pro's and con's of each system? Cheers Sel
  4. Hi Guys, I am after some of your expertise and knowledge. I currently am using standard Tamiya push connectors and the standard Tamiya battery connectors, I know there are better connectors out there but my soldering skills are weak to non existant... Is there a gel or grease I can put on these connectors to improve the electrical connection between them and keep moisture out of the connectors without changing them? I used to use copperease on my big car battery terminals, would this work on the small connectors too? Thanks
  5. Hi TA-Mark, Can you confirm the ARW3200-20 32DP pinion for the Twin Detonator, I have a couple but the diameter of the pinion is too big to actually fit the gear box, the Tamiya original is a 48 pitch 20T, should I not stick to the same pitch (ARW4800-20)? Cheers
  6. Thanks TA-Mark, With the two ESC's do you have to set the one in reverse or can you simply switch two of the wires on that motor? Also I am assuming that setting it in reverse is a simple case of flicking the throttle switch on the TX when you set that one up?
  7. Thanks Percymon, Had considered a better brushed motor set up but do you have any recommendations on a dual motor ESC at that point? The ESC i currently have is only rated to 23T motors... Would it worth looking at the something like the Traxxas EVX2, or is this only good running a 14.4V setup? You are correct, I currently run a 18T pinion, the only other option is the 20T. Cheers
  8. Hi Guys, In need of experienced advice... I am considering upgrading my Twin Det and just want to check my understanding on Brushless motors is correct... I am currently running Ansmann Clash 23T motors, these seem good and the truck does a good speed, so want a Brushless set up that will be as fast, maybe a little faster but not stupid... Now the Clash 23T supposedly do 23,200RPM and my understanding is you multiply the Kv rating by the battery voltage to give the RPM of the Brushless motor... Is this correct? If so the EzRun 13.5T 3650 (2500Kv) will only do 18,500 RPM and will be slower but the EzRun 8.5T 3650 (4000Kv) will do 29,600RPM, this may be a little faster than I am after. Do these figures add up, or even make sense? I could go for the EzRun 13T 3650S (a 380sized motor in a 540 can) (3000Kv) which should do 22,200RPM, now on paper this is a similar speed but will the 'smaller' motor give the torque and power for the Twin Det to still be a fun basher or would I be better off sticking with the larger can core size? All calculations above done using 7.4V, as will be using 2S LiPo batteries. I am looking at the EzRun as they have good reviews and are in my budget Cheers
  9. Hi Guys, I have a project in mind to upgrade my Twin Detonator and would like some feed back on what you guys think would be a better ESC/motor combination for this. I am still new to the RC world and modifications so would appreciate some more enlightened and experienced view points. The truck will be primarily used as a fun basher and a project to keep me entertained I am currently debating between using either a Traxxas EVX-2 ESC and 14.4v motors or going with 2x eZRun 13T (3000Kv) Brushless motor/ ESC (35A) combo's... Either way I am more than likely going to be using a twin NiMH battery pack setup, series for the 14.4V or parallel for the brushless.. What are your thoughts and recommendations? What are the pro's and con's of each system? Cheers
  10. Thanks Champ, that now makes some sort of sense, so all BL motors even sensorless ones still have a form of feed back to make them work (i.e. know when each coil needs to activate)? and to have a single ESC to control two motors it would have to effectively be a dual ESC build as a single unit... Cheers
  11. Hi Guys, Having read some of the posts on here about twin motor systems and converting to brushless systems they all require two brushless ESC's as well. My query is why is it that you cannot run two brushless motors from one brushless ESC? Preferably in not too technical speech? Why would it not work running two motors in parallel like you do on brushed systems? Cheers
  12. Thanks guys, I now understand the problem more clearly. One more very noob question, I have been looking at alternate wheel/tyre combo's to purchase for the Baja King (as the originals are worn out). I see that the wheels are seperated by hex size, I understand this part and then also by size(?) 1.9, 2.2, 2.8etc. Is that the rim diameter or the tyre diameter? is there an indication for width? cheers
