Tamiya Avante Black Special.... Build!

Recommended Posts

Well I finally got the Black Special after putting it off for fare to long :/

I'm not one to buy this and leave it in the box as I see so many doing so this will be my build :)

And the first build with pics on here I believe.

Let the build begin

Also started the painting

Also one thing to note, the driver on the Avante black is grey unlike the white one on the 2011 and 1988

7.jpg

The body will also be unpainted like most of my cars here http://photobucket.com/Avantefamily :)

Little update on the paining

10.jpg

11.jpg

After using the gun Metal paint I added a layer of clear lacquer to give it a nice shine :)

And FYI that top helmet sticker is a PITA to put on right

12.jpg

13.jpg

And all together

14.jpg

15.jpg

16.jpg

And as my one will be clear bodyed I have painted the bottom of the driver black so it all looks right once together :)

17.jpg

I’m quite happy how the driver turned out

More soon :)

Update time!

Ok tonight was pretty much doing the main body

18.jpg

I can’t tell you how nerve racking doing this was as the side stickers are a pita to get on without messing them up, and knowing this was my only set didn’t help

19.jpg

but finally I was done

Quick tip for stickers, wet the surface with Windex. You can then slide them to the proper location. Squeeze excess off, any left under evaporates without leaving a mark. PS, do you always sticker then paint? That seems backwards to me (not flaming, just curious). How do you keep overspray from getting on the stickers?

I always use a scalpel to run over the lines and then a quick bend gives you a neet line :)

Any sharp blade. I do a light score and pull the lexan away as it works far better than trying to cut it.

From somebody who is super anal on even a slight mark on a screw slot, this is EPIC. Decal application looks perfect, though im still to try the Exacto on shell cutting, may have to try this on the BS back up shell i have to do soon, need some pink rims though :) . Top job on the driver figure too, its nice to see one so neat and well finished.

Well done M pro, another very impressive Avante in your stable. You have a great attention to detail buddy, that is just awesome. Don't rush it for us :)

What pinion gear comes in that kit?

I totally forgot that I have seen so many of your other cars without paint on the body. Apparently, I can't read either lol. A few months ago when you posted all your Avantes, I thought to myself that I need to do a body like that. Looking great! I have one of these NIB that I will eventually build, but that's a long ways down my RC to do list so I'm just going to build vicariously through you. :)
