Axial Yeti

Recommended Posts

Some members here are just die hard for Tamiya only, nothing else matters. Kind of like trap in a time capsule where other products have evolved or improved.

Any ideal how much loss in revenue for Tamiya? The value of Axial, Veterra, rc4wd and other companies like the one that makes the 6x6 trucks would equal to the loss of customers, revenues and brand recognition for Tamiya. The crazy part is Tamiya has the capability and capacity to put out these products by Axial, rc4wd etc...

Not only Tamiya dropped the ball, not sure they realized they dropped the ball many years ago.

That thing looks like an ultimate bashing machine! This may actually make me stray from Tamiya a little!

So it's Axials response to the Vaterra Twin Hammers? Looks nice and it appears that they've realise we like easy to get at internals and battery access? Whatever next!

I know they probably won't but if Tamiya would release something like this at a decent price point in both kit and RTR (XB) form I think they would stir up a fair bit of interest. I know I'd buy a Tamiya version of this kind of machine, if only because the body detail would be awesome plus Willy would look right at home behind the wheel too! Oh well, we can but dream!

WOW that looks nice It's like a twin hammers but the body lifts right off!!

I love my twin hammers but hate you need to take out like 12 screws to take it's body off!!

One weird thing why did axial put the rear pumpkin off set from the center on my twin hammers it's rear is in the center...I think axials way will make the truck get torque twist under power?

here is my hammers I gave it a good old beat down in the wetlands run!!

It's a nice looking rig , be interesting to see how pricing stacks up against the twin hammers.

Independent double wishbone front end and a solid rear axle...? Tamiya did that years ago Steve. It's the CC01, just needs someone to bolt on a rollcage and cut off the duff bits :D I was actually toying with that and fitting TL01B front arms to get the width and stability to run it like a rock racer. Front end was sorted but the problem was finding a rear axle wide enough to match, and then I picked up a TH 2nd hand anyway and ditched the project.

Maybe one day they'll get around to fitting a decent sized battery in the front end as well.

one thing is it don't have a 2 speed you need to buy a upgrade kit to allow you to switch the 2 gears and that will be even more $$.

And after seeing photos of it I am weary of the rear axle with the shaft off set and the pumpkin off to one side it will cause torque twist the hammers shaft is in the middle on the rear I see the axial one with it's rear set up like that twisting and always flipping from the off set axle shaft...should have use a straight centered shaft with the pumpkin in the center.

What I like on the twin hammers how the rear end is connected with the 2 bars and then the drive shaft centered in the middle of them it actually acts like sliders and don't hardly get caught up on anything...now with the axial there will be a much larger opening to one side of the rear connecting bars and it will get stuff lodged up in it and get stuck on stuff more often.

Good point mate. One could even argue that the new Rock Socker IS Tamiya's offering in this category but I have no idea how the CR-01 fares when it's not crawling?

The rock socker is looking even more of a bargain - maybe strictly bit a rock 'racer' but I question how many owners of the twin hammers and similar rigs actually go any anything much beyond walking pace on rocky areas.

I already have...SCX 10 honcho, Twin Hammers and D90 defender, and 'Tamiya = 0, plus up grades for these model amounts to at least another vehicles.... after market upgrades from my XC, all by others and none by Tamiya.

Tamiya may still able to attracts young new customers, but not old dog like myself with a bit deeper pockets.

I also thought the Rock Socker was going to be a fast runner, well compared to a crawler. It looks like it should be with that race body. Can't see it happening with the soft suspension and high COG.

My Twin Hammers had a lot of rear torque twist, enough to keep lifting the front right wheel on pull away, you see it on standard TH YouTube clips all the time. There's an upgrade where the upper links fit onto the rear axle, it changes the geometry and helps reduce it. You could of course do what I did and put a less insane motor in it. I'm running a 35T HPI that suits my trail running and mild crawling although I'm thinking to go brushless.

The 2 speed gearbox was disappointing IMO with both gears being too close to each other, that's still the same with the slower motor. A lot of people on crawling based forums have just locked it into their preferred gear.

This new Axial looks impressive but at that price it's gonna have to be really special to sell well. We'll see what the reviewers make of it. Hopefully it'll be released as a kit as well as RTR.

I'm sure Axial will release a kit version, just like they have with almost all their vehicles. The kit usually comes with the nicer aluminum parts.

I put a middle sway bar on the rear of my twin hammers and it helped with that twist.. it's not to much from the set up just that the rear has so much travel...If you think the twin hammers does this that axial with the offset rear drive shaft should do it much worse than a twin hammer.

I put a stock silver can Tamiya motor in my twin hammers for trail running it's good on low and when you want to play around it has enough speed in hi gear to give you excitement....see my video above.

Meh... Doesn't do it for me. The chassis design is interesting, but I don't care for the looks. It's funny; before the crawler craze, I was dying to see some new designs with rollcages, but I just don't care for the "tube frame with flat plates attached to it" look.

Now, put a vintage muscle car body and some street tires on it, and you might be on to something. Better still, two of them, one with, say, a '69 Charger, and one with a Plymouth Fury cop car body...

I think Axial and Vaterra with its twin hammers got the design tight, not use of too much metal/ Al. or use it only on certain places where roll overs or come in contact with a rock. Plastic on the other hand will give and return to its original form. Metal will stay bent and weights more than plastic. Its seems Tamiya is better for road cars and crawling other companies are better at it.

I think the Yeti is better than TH given is a newer model and i would think Axial did their home work and improve any short comings of the TH. But only a head to head run will determine who is the top dog.

The Yeti appears to be larger too. The TH runs on 1.9 ties and the Yeti is on 2.2s. Had my engine in my real Evo not just blown up, I'd have this on pre-order. Sadly, all my fun money just went to purchasing a new engine for the real car. Apparently I can't drive any of my RC cars to work ;-).

Sounds promising. I'd kill for that easy battery access on my TH!
