  1. Anyone else have anything they're looking to get rid of? :-)
  2. Actually I have an unopened pack of wheels and tires. Not worried about those snapping in two while driving. But, thanks anyway for responding!
  3. Is the Super Dictator the same size as the original Dictator? I'm looking for spare parts (or whole cars) for my orig Dictator and the Super Dictator looks like it's the same (other than the body and some other cosmetic pieces). But, the box on the Super Dictator says 1/8 scale, whereas the Dictator is 1/10. Anyone know if the parts are interchangeable? Thanks! Matt
  4. Does anyone have parts or complete cars that are compatible with an old '87 Nikko Dictator? I was once told: Any help would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks! Matt
  5. Thanks for the advice, jozza! So, what do you think about these: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti00...=LXKWU7&P=0 Do you know of a good place to order batteries (such as the Sanyo)? What are some other brands to look for? I think my cars will fit any of the packs I've looked at. The NiCds I have now are very close to the same dimensions listed for a 4500 pack I've seen and my NiCds have a bit of wiggle room in the battery compartment. But, nevertheless, I think I will be sticking closer to 3300 simply for price reasons. I'm not enough of an enthusiast to spend $50 per pack. If I can grab a couple packs for less than $50, that would be great! Wow...so you think I'd need 6 packs per car, eh? Man, that's a lot of dough. I don't think I'll be getting that done for a while. I'm leaning toward getting two Superbrain 960s for charging...so I will be able to charge 2 packs at once. But, all those packs are more than I can spend for now. I've read in a few places that it's wise to let a pack that's fresh out of a car rest for a period of time before charging it. How long should I wait to put it back on the charger? From your post, it sounds like you don't wait at all. Am I understanding you correctly? When you say "top up between 300 and 800 mah"...how do you go about that? Do you just keep an eye on them and stop the charge when it reaches that level? Do the Superbrains have a real-time way to monitor that? Sorry for my ignorance and thanks for your help!!!
  6. Okay, it seems to be the more I read these forums and google, the more confused I get. It seems there are som many options and operation stipulations to batteries that I'm having a hard time deciding what to purchase. I've had an old Nikko RC Dictator for about 20 years and I just picked up a second one on ebay. All I have is 20 year old Nicd batteries and I want to update my batteries and charger. I think I've decided to either get one Superbrain 977 or two Superbrain 960s for charging four new NiMHs. I figure 2 for each car will allow me to run them both relatively non-stop. Please tell me if I'm wrong on that. My main question is: which batteries should I buy? There are so many brands and different numbers out there. I know I need 7.2v, 6-cell, but what about the mAh? I've seen everything from 3000 to 4800. What will give me the best performance and best charge/play ratio? I'm looking for actual model numbers, etc. Simply because I'm too new at this to pick a good brand name. I guess if someone could give me a brand name and mAh rating I could find something. My other questions deal with charging the new batteries. Is there a good FAQ out there that tells all about charging NiMH...best practices and so on? I don't want to have buy new batteries all the time...I want these new batteries to last. So, I want to know how to take good car of them. Thanks in advance! Matt
  7. Yeah, I definitely meant a Lipo setup to replace the Nicd/NiMH setup. Just wondered if it was worth it for a novice like myself to spend the money on switching to Lipo. What are the gains to go with the safety and high-maintenance drawbacks? Do you guys know of a Lipo battery model that will work with my car? --edit-- I was replying at the same time terry.sc was-- I'm thinking I'll just stick with NiMH. It sounds like I'll be spending way too much money to go to Lipo packs. Can you give me an idea of what the typical play/charge ratio is? How much play time can I expect to get from the battery and how long will it take to charge it? So, the suggestion is 3 batteries (I didn't realize one had to rest...good to know!) and charge one at a time with the Superbrain 977. So, a total of 6 batteries and 2 Superbrains. Yeah, I think I'll have to work up to that. I don't think my wife will sign off on that amount of loot directly after Christmas! So, maybe 4 batteries and one Superbrain for now. Thanks!
  8. Thanks for the input! I've also gotten suggestions for the Superbrain 960 and 977. Any thoughts on those? Also, would you suggest moving to Lipo batteries? And, do they make a Lipo compatible with the 7.2V 3300+ NiMH battery packs? I'd like to land 4 batteries and a charger for $200 or less. Someone told me the Superbrain 977 will charge two batteries at once. I have two of the exact same car. So, if I had 4 batteries I could keep the two of them running for as long as I wanted being able to charge two batteries while I'm using the other two. Thoughts? Thanks!!! Matt
  9. What's the best 7.2V Tamiya battery/charger combo? I've just resurrected my old RC car and I wondered if there was some fancier/better equipment out there that would maximize play time and minimize charge time. I have 3 older batteries and a Hobbico AC/DC charger with trickle and a 15min. timed charge on it. I figure after over 15 years I could probably get something better! Any opinions on the subject are greatly appreciated! Thanks Matt Tyree
