  1. Yeah...I'm like you. Its pretty cool, but the look is not just to my fancy. Something more towards the old sassy chassis is what I would like to see. Even just an aluminum tub. lol
  2. Any thoughts on the idea using the stick radio with 4 channels for separate front and rear steering control? May be humorous to watch anyways. lol. Sticking relatively stock. Stock 27 turns...going DIY 4 link....maybe lift and widener. Haven't decided on that one yet. Going with the retro look...so lift won't look right probably. Like the thought of easily reversing rear servo and being able to tap into the additional steering if need be. Just wondering if anyone has thoughts on it. Maybe best of both worlds...rear steer on tap if needed...and more stability when needed....although stock clod and stability do not go together...lol.
  3. I agree. You are right about that. But that isn't possible now. I have been in the hobby since I was 12....I'm 36...lol. We have had 4 Blackfoots, Team Losi truck, Midnight Pumpkin, Lunchbox, Duratrax Bug, SCX10, Wheely King, and now a Clod. I have two kids that are in it also...most of those listed are theirs...they are trying to sell their stock now to get a Clod. I have two little ones that won't be to far off. So I myself...build on the cheap to save more for them. I'm skiptical of the SkyFly. One of my kids has the HPI controller. Its a nice one. I have no problems with it. It can be bought for $40 US with receiver. I do respect what you said, and I agree...just not their yet.
  4. Hey guys, I have gotten to the point I can start doing some things to my Clod. Getting dual steering servos and axle mounts. Looking at different transmitters. Can't spend a ton. Looking at the HPI TF-40. It has a 3rd channel. Does that third channel bind with the channel 1 and will work a servo along with it?? Or will I still need a Y?? I'm also looking at a Fly Sky 4 channel. It has servo reversing for all 4 channels but is a conventional...not pistol grip. I thought this might be neat due to the fact that with it having sticks I could work both steering servos independently. Would take some getting used to but might be pretty cool. Could also crab walk that way. Has anyone else done this?? Used a 4 channel and run the steering servos independent each other?? Will be adding a ubec 5amp also. Going to order the MG995's...seems like alot of you have had decent luck with them and they are CHEAP!! Thanks for any info you can give me on this setup. Ready to get started!
  5. I would just go to ebay and get a kimbrough servo saver. I believe the 124?? I know a bunch swear by the tower pro mg995 on here. You can pick them up WAY cheap. They may not be the highest quality, but they are stout and you can buy a bunch of those for the price of one of the others. If you shopped I bet you could get the servo and servo saver for around $15 or so.
  6. My kids and I have been following this build!! We are in the middle of forestry country in SW Arkansas. We are covered with logging equipment around here. Awesome job!! I would call you more of a "real" inventor than a mad one! Could you pack the tires with foam to help with the compression?? Now you need to build a log loader to pull around on the back of a Globeliner or the such!
  7. Welcome!! I'm new also! Have lurked for a LONG time before joining, its a great site! I agree with Reilluor. Time to upgrade. We have had three of these...well dual hunter and blackfoot xtremes. Same design though. I would say its not the strength of the shock towers but the size of them. You can't run longer shocks without putting the dogbones at extreme angles. Getting the larger shock towers, which are VERY easy to DIY, will allow you to use a longer shock and increase your travel greatly. Also like Reilluor said, the steering has alot to be desired. One thing I might add to what he said, was the mounts...the little plastic ones that screw into the side of the chassis. They make aluminum ones that are far better. That is a weak point. As you steer it watch the flex that comes through the way it is mounted. You'll love the chassis. They are alot of fun and easy to work on.
  8. Been a Tamiya fan since I was 12. I'm 36 now. Just go a Clod for my birthday!! In SW Arkansas. Have Tamiya loving kids too! One is 14 and says he likes kits so he knows how to fix them. He is starting off right! Like has been said earlier though. If I wouldn't had been there to introduce Tamiya...they would have gone Traxxas or HPI for sure. Their first were a Lunchbox and Midnight Pumpkin. Now one has an axial. One has a wheely king, blackfoot xtreme, and dual hunter. He is selling two so he can get a Clod now. They love that thing!!
  9. Mr. Crispy, looks great!! Have a dual hunter I gave to one of my boys, had wild wily arms on it. Have you ever tried that? That really tucks them under! Probably way too much for what you are after. It was a neat runner though. With 1.9's really looks scale. He also has a Blackfoot III. Loads of fun with a 15 turn brushed in it.
  10. Madinventor...Love the ruggedness of your pieces!! Have you ever worn out or broken any of your parts?? What type of mill do you use? How much of a difference does the 1/4 scale servo make compared to the high torque standard servos? Sweet designs! Quandry...Plan to make steering servo mounts similar to yours. Have some aluminum angle...thinking of using your plate design but instead of a flat plate, notching the angle and using the angle as the servo holder instead of having to buy extra plastic or alum mounts. Going to keep the stock tub. Hoping to improve it as much as possible. Seen many do this and seems like a fun challenge. Did a lot to my Blackfoots. Mainly to remove bump steer and soften the front end. Twinset...Have followed A LOT of your posts. Man would love to sit around and chat with you. The torsion setup is awsome!! Very much like a trailer axle...although they use rubber instead of a spring. That thing would have to float when you run it! I read where you do not like the coilovers and such. Its similar to some Kenworth suspensions. If you wanted to get rid of the shock you might could come up with some sort of Z spring. If articulation wasn't a huge factor. I don't know how you would go about making a small one thought. Maybe a rubber bushing where your torsion bar rides with a clamp you could tighten or loosen to your liking, to control the spring effect. Just going from class 8 truck experience. Don't know if any of that would be viable but like talking about it. lol. Thanks for posting, loving this stuff!! Such a wealth of information here!
  11. Hey guys. First real post here. First I would like to say this is an awesome site!! I have been a member of many forums and this one is top of the line!! I am not new to R/C...have had two. Tamiya Super Blackfoot and Losi JR-T. I got both of these when I was about 12. I am now 36 with four kids. I got a Super Clodbuster for my birthday. I had wanted one since I was 12. The kids talked mom into it and now I have one. MAN that thing is something. If you have ever seen polarbear111 on youtube when he got a clod...lol...I said the same thing. I GOT A CLOD!! I have seen many mods and researched to death what I'm going to do with mine. I was a shop teacher for 9 years and now am a diesel mechanic (all CAT) and love doing my own stuff. Would love to see all the diy stuff people have done to their Clods. I know there is alot, and its spread out all over, but if you have made your own servo mounts (saw twinsets mount and probably going to use that! GREAT JOB!!), 4 links, chassis, lift kits, steering rods, etc....please post pics of what you have done. Just whatever you have done diy. Would love to see it all in one place! Hope to get pics of my Clod up soon. Thanks and its great to be here!
  12. I posted this in the for sale forum and I think I shouldn't have. I did not notice there was an area for posting ebay specific stuff. Sorry for that. I normally never make it past the monster/crawler forum. I have been a member for a long time, but never posted until now. I'm selling my Super Blackfoot and all parts that I have collected over the years. If you have any questions please ask. I got a Super Clodbuster for my birthday from my wife and kids and it has taken precedence over the Blackfoot. Love the Blackfoot, have had it since I was 12 and am now 36 and have collected a lot of stuff over the years, but wanting to do some mild modding to the Clod. Thanks and God Bless http://www.ebay.com/itm/161617019135?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
