The Manta Ray is a capable off road chassis which shares loads of parts with loads of other cars from touring cars up to the Top Force Evo.

It's also known as the DF01 chassis. If you search the forums you'll find loads of mods, hints and tips.

What sort of gearbox upgrade options are you after? It can take a good range of pinion sizes...

Manta Ray, Blazing Star are DF01 chassis. There are not many gearbox options available.

Using all plastic gears (TA02 - 74T), and steel pinions (DF02 19T steel pinion is perfect for a 17T-19T motor) are about as strong as you will get it. Using the hollow gearshafts does cut some weight. Alloy motor mount will stop the plastic one from breaking. The gearbox strength only becomes a problem once you get more power bolted in that a 17T double mod.

Hopup parts are Top Force and Top Force Evo, This is the FRP chassis plate version of the DF01.

Thundershot Universal drives fit perfect to replace the dogbones.

GPM make most of the suspension in alloy. (TA01)

One could consider the DF01 a long wishbone/dogbone version of TA01. Most parts between the 2 are interchangable. TA02 has a different front knuckle to DF01/TA01.

Here's the parts list from my build:

Yeah have done the bearings.

If you've read my previous posts you'll know I have a Tamiya Dynatach 02H wiff 8.4 volts surging through it.....

Mark says I'm gonna wreck it real soon, so when I do I wanna know what to upgrade to.....

Also, after running the motor is barey hot, but the ESC is and batt connector is and wires between ESC and batt are, is this normal??
