Where has the TC mobile version gone? - http://www.tamiyaclub.com/m/

Recommended Posts

Maybe I was the only one using it, but I did find it very useful.

Has it crashed and burned?

Just like to know so I can trash bookmarks and iPhone icon!

Cheers,

I used it, too, and a quick check makes it seem that I still can. I am not sure what may have happened.

All I get is a 404, desktop and Mobile.

Unless it is a mac thing, read Mac and iPhone above. ;)

Hi All

Sorry, I noticed a flaw in the mobile version which allowed 'spam' type comments, so I've temporarily taken the site down. Must admit in these days of hi-res mobiles I didn't actually think anyone would be using it any more (that an potentially there may be a better version in the works ;) ) That said, I've just got to fix it and it'll be back - probably this weekend.

Cheers

Chris

Chris,

Thanks for the heads up, security is obviously as important as accessability.

Just for your information though, I prefer the list view when using my iPhone, especially as the titles come up with each entry, unlike on the home page. It makes it very easy to navigate.

Would love to be able to leave comments on the mobile site though, always annoyed me that I would have to go to the full version to do that.

I would also love a mobile link to the model reference section and manuals you do have on the site, preferably with screen optimised thumbnails of all pages in the manual in one scroll. I often find myself looking for a part number while not at my PC, or while at the track or something, and often have to negotiate to the pdf manuals on the tamiyaUSA page to find what I am looking for, or to find they have not uploaded it yet. Navigating to the TC manual pages is annoyingly hit and miss on a mobile with no preview to scroll through. If I am honest the full version kind of annoys me for the same reason, why do we need to select the page from the dropdown list?

I always look at the full site, probably at least once a day when at work or on my desktop at home, but with the mobile version on my phone, I never use the full version there. Mobile optimised is always better in my opinion.

A day never passes without my visiting the site, and I have felt quite naked the last few days without the mobile version. Without it there I have noticed just how many times I day I actually visit the site. It is lots!! My life would be significantly duller without TC.

Still missing it!

Was I the only one using it?

Do I remove my home screen icon and just let it go?

I've got a chunk of TC maintenance work to do this bank holiday weekend. I'll take a look at it again then.

Tapitalk is just an alternative optional forum view app (quite popular with the kids I hear) - we are talking about the old 'mobile view' of the main site here which I took off line when I spotted a potential issue with comments.

If you've not tried Tapatalk I'd suggest you at least try it, it's far more intuitive than the mobile app ever was and has way more functionality too, I spend 80% of my forum time on Tapatalk.

Just to be clear, the mobile view of the forum is still there and you don't need to use tapitalk or anything else to access it. (you can of course, if you prefer)

The mobile view we are talking about allowed you to browse the main tc site more easily, showrooms, trades etc. (tapitalk is just for forums)

It was set up along time ago, when browsing on mobiles was a new thing, but the speed in which quality of mobile phones and mobile browsing increased meant that it was such a big requirement any more. That said as other have pointed out it was still useful if you wanted a quick blast around the site.

Cheers

Scroll down to the very bottom then zoom into the bottom left corner and click on 'Use Mobile Version' :D

The mobile view of the main site is back (i forgot to release the code last night) I have had to disable 'commenting' and 'contacting members' from the mobile view though until further notice.
