Thanks for the replies everyone. I finished the build and it looks like the gearbox is not quite as tight. I ran it a little bit and I can now turn the rear wheels with less effort. I am going to keep genlty bedding it in and see how it goes. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the help. I have checked the plates, and I do have two up and two down. I am using the kit 15t pinion. The gearbox halves fit together well and there are no gaps. I used the tool for pinion spacing and triple checked it. I am kind of at a loss. I briefly ran the motor while attached to the gearbox and it spun. I can also spin it easily when I use the propeller shaft. I may just run it a bit and check to see if the motor or the gearbox heats up too much. Thanks again.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I checked the little plates and made sure they were correct for my pinion.

Hi everyone. I have started my Bigwig build and have run into a problem. The rear gearbox is extremely tight. I can barely move the outdrives. I am thinking it must be the mesh of the motor and the gears because when there is no motor installed, the gearbox moves fine. Also, the motor itself moves fine. It is just when the motor is bolted to the gearbox that the problem arises. I have tried to set the mesh several times, but that does't seem to work. Am I missing something? Has anyone encountered this before? Thanks for any assistance.

Hi everyone. A few months ago I picked up a Hotshot from eBay that I want to use as a vintage racer (I know it will be slow, I just want to do it for the LOLs). It had been converted to Super Hotshot (Supershot) suspension and had 4 shocks. I am looking to replace them with something that is an upgrade from the old shocks. Does anyone know of any good shocks that would fit? I have heard that 80mm up front and 100mm in the rear are the proper sizes. I found a cheap kit on ebay, but I am suspicious of the quality. I have that chassis on my watch list on eBay. :-D Thanks for the info on the motor. I'll do some research and go from there. I may just do the 17.5 Turnigy motor to start (since I have one) until I get more consistent with the car and then move to a good 13.5.

Hi Everyone. I am rather new here, and somewhat ingorant on modifying the older Tamiya cars. I just got a Hotshot off of the eBay to convert to a vintage racer. I do know that it won't be fast, but it will be a lot of fun. Anyway, I am looking for recommendations on how to modify the car to get it running well on the track. It already has been modified to have 4 shocks, so we are good to go there. I am going to see if I can replace them with some Tamiya aluminum dampers. Does anyone know the correct sizes? I just see "long" and "short" mentioned. Would the shocks from, say, a TRF201 or TRF211 work? I am planning on brushless with a max of 13.5 to race in the 4WD stock class near me. Would that be overkill for the gearboxes? Also, what should I do to get 2.2 wheels on there? I have heard mention of a 12mm hex conversion, but I am not sure what to get. I was planning on using Tamiya Star Dish or Dark Impact wheels. What hex adapters would work with those? I know it is a lot of questions, but any suggestions would be great. I am just going out there to have fun, so mods that improve reliablility and consitency are the ones I am seeking. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi all. My local track is having a bit of a resurgence with stadium trucks and I was thinking about joining in. However, I don't have an ST. My 201 is currently sitting around doing nothing, so I thought about converting it to truck spec. Has anyone done this? I am basically looking for help determining what parts I will need. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Do you have any Monster Beetle (Blackfoot, Mud Blaster, whatever) parts? I am looking for body posts, servo cover, front bumper, and bumper mount. How about any parts for a racing master mk. 6 (Toyota Tom's 84c)?
