cosworthwesty 645 Posted January 28, 2015 Finally made a start on my Xv-01 pro kit today, Step 1 diff assembly I have done away with the plastic bevel gears and fitted steel ones I also replaced the standard gear case orings with TRF ones. A small amount of green slime to help keep the oil in. Step 2 fitting the gears into the front gearbox housing. Step 3,4,5 fitting the gear cases together, motor plate and spur gear. Step 6 fitting motor pinion and spur cover, I decide to fit a TZ motor not to sure how it will perform, fingers crossed it will be ok. I think I may need to lengthen the motor cables
DBoz93 5 Posted January 29, 2015 Looks good, I'm still gathering parts/upgrades prior to building mine. I have the XV-01 long damper spec. Have fun building the car!
cosworthwesty 645 Posted January 29, 2015 Steps 12 and 13 steering linkage and fitting to the main tub, nice bit of quality with no slop/play. Nice blue bling Steps14 and 15 front uprights drive shafts and wishbones. It's at this point I have had to stop as I forgot to order the anti roll bar/sway bar stoppers for the hop up stabiliser kit dooh
cosworthwesty 645 Posted February 14, 2015 Step 16 and 17 fitting the front wishbones and gearbox, also the front anti roll bar. Step 18 and 19 preparing and fitting the rear wishbones. Step 20 rear uprights and driveshafts Step 21 and 22 fitting rear gearbox, drive belt and uprights. Theibault 1535 Posted February 14, 2015 Great build. I thoroughly enjoyed mine. I highly recommend getting the aluminum arm/suspension mount pieces as those are the only bits that really have a tendency to break. Plus, they are blue so they will add to your bling factor. cosworthwesty 645 Posted February 16, 2015 Steps 24,25 and 26 shocks Only had time to build the shocks due to being flat out at work 😔
cosworthwesty 645 Posted February 22, 2015 Steps 27,28 and 29 servo and esc. I'm using a blue bird metal gear servo I have a few of these and they work very well. The ESC is a hobbywing quicrun 1060 ebay bargain. Step 30 receiver and esc covers, before doing this I needed to lengthen the motor cables. Step 31 and 32 wheels and mud guards. Step 33 and 34 fitting wheels, body posts and front bumper. Step 35 and 36 battery tray door and body. I'm using a subaru Impreza body it will be paint in the team arai colours. JLZ78 73 Posted February 22, 2015 This is great. I'm a big fan of the XV-01. What are the main differences between this Pro version and the standard XB-01? As I see it, it's the TRF shocks, Aluminium motor plate and turn buckles. Anything else?

Not to sure what's different apart from the blue ball studs, universal drive shafts, trf shocks and the blue turnbuckles oh and poss a tougher drive belt. DBoz93 5 Posted February 23, 2015 Looks great cosworthwesty!!! Its interesting seeing the differences between the different kits. Can't wait to see the paint job!!
cosworthwesty 645 Posted March 1, 2015 Made a start on the body today all a little bit alien removing the protective film before painting. After cutting and placing the stickers on the body I then began a 3 hour masking challenge. Once the masking was done I then gave the shell 4 coats of PS-16 backed with 2 of silver. If I get time I will paint the pearl white tomorrow. And the start the massive task of fitting over 100 decals 😁😁
AndyForbes 63 Posted March 2, 2015 Looking good. When I painted mine, I traced the decals onto masking tape, cut the masking tape to shape, and then put that on top of the protective film to work out where I needed to mask. I think it took me 10 days in total to paint and decal!
bromvw 744 Posted March 2, 2015 I love this chassis - it just screams quality . IMO one of the best designs Tamiya have come up with in years .
cosworthwesty 645 Posted March 17, 2015 Ok so it's taken some time to get the body done, but I'm fairly happy with the results. Now I just have the cockpit paint and lighting kit to fit.

cosworthwesty 645 Posted March 18, 2015 Beautiful! Is the red also painted or is it from decals? Thanks for the comment, the red is a decal. I think the decal sheets had 124 decals in total.
cosworthwesty 645 Posted March 29, 2015 Finally got around to finishing the build today after many hours of painting the cockpit.
volvotech 101 Posted April 29, 2015 Well, no thanks to this thread, I picked up an xv01 pro. Nothing else yet, but I'm strongly considering the body you used as well. A toss up between that or a lancia shell. This board is a terrible influence on me.
Effigy3 1267 Posted May 1, 2015 You did such a great job on this car cosworhtwesty. The XV-01 Pro was on my possible future cars list but it's now moved to the top 3 of my "next cars to get" list. I completely agree with volvotech, you guys are a bad influence (but in a good way).
