Not sure where to put this...

Was the electronics toast or did it still work?

I got a beetle too and for my 4 year old nephew it works just fine, got it ballraced and put the oilshocks on.

Nice cars for kids.

What do you mean when saying you want to "modernise it", mate?

I had a brushless 280 size system I bought by mistake... It was either a tamtech or qd I needed to buy to use it...

This came up on eBay and I liked the look

I am clear coating the body... Adding 2.4 orange spectrum radio gear... An new servo... Lipo and brushless... Oh and led lol

No it worked just fine but I bought it to use up a wasted brushless motor

You wont regret it, these are a lot of fun and very tough. It was my favourite runner for a long time. I had the 18T EZRUN combo in mine and it was pretty quick. Hope you don't mind if I post a vid, if I am spoiling your thread?, I will remove it.

The 2 speed gearbox is a nice feature as well.

You inspired me remember... I don't notice the switch doing much in stock form ... How did the pinion come off easily ?

It wasn't easy, I heated it up on the gas cooker and prised it off, you can get pinion pullers designed for the job.

I think I just used regular tools, screwdriver, hammer, pliers etc. I ended up damaging the motor in the process but the pinion was fine.

It went on the new motor much easier than it came off. Pretty sure the pinion hole is tapered?, so it gets tighter as you press it on.

Also If I was to do it again, I would drill out the dimples in the metal motor plate and screw the motor on through the holes. hopefully that makes sense?

I think it was brass, it was around 4 years ago though so I can't remember to be honest.

You might be able to "fashion" a pinion puller without too much trouble.

Edit2add, Member "Bugone" did one as well, might be worth a PM?.

Is that the motor you are using?, the turnigy one in the pics?

I hope it fits now as I remember saying it would fit in the QD.:o

It looks bigger than the EZRUN one I had in mine.

Fitting the tyres the right way round will be a must with that setup you're fitting! ;)

Very nice! Looks great and like new with the clear coat on it...

I've got a few QD's, the most modded one I have is a Clod Buster running a Grasshopper rear gearbox with a 540 silvercan motor, goes like stink!

I've also got a QD Thundershot running an EZRUN brushless set-up, ruined a set of tyres in an afternoon, even on the lower gearbox setting, its a monster!
