tamiya monkey 243 Posted August 12, 2012 Thought i would start this up for those moving into lipo and not sure what to get depending on the chassis, also might help me choose the correct battery for some vintage runners i have. So maybe peeps could advise what lipo fits a particular chassis type and maybe post a picture showing any mods they had to do to make it fit.
wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted August 12, 2012 Hi Tamiya Monkey I have just entered the world of lipo and I have a thread which may help you a little?. Actually, this thread will help me as well, as I am a newbie to all this, Here's my thread
tamiya monkey 243 Posted August 12, 2012 Yeh read and posted in your other thread, just thought peeps could start a list of chassis type and battery fitment, its a real knightmare trying to sort the correct battery for different cars. regards mark
atf300 28 Posted August 12, 2012 ta02-03 need a bit of dremeling for the longer stick packs (yeah racing 3200) to fit . ta03f pro needs a quick release you can then space out for the longer pack m01-m02 you space out the on side of the holder.
GregM 1109 Posted August 12, 2012 Here's another thread dedicated to stickpack-sized LiPo batteries: http://www.tamiyaclu...89 DT-01 & DT-02: regular hardcase LiPos won't fit due to their length. The 134mm short Jamara #141390 stickpack LiPo however is just perfect for these battery compartments, if you don't want to modify anything. I have tried it out successfully, and this battery has been mentioned in numerous threads on TC.

Hi guys i,d be interested in knowing which is a good high capacity lipo for use in a re re hotshot using a superstock BZ motor. ESC is lipo compatible although it has a tamiya plug. cheers Karl
atf300 28 Posted August 12, 2012 without knowing the chassis ,the jamara would be your best bet, but looking at the chassis design , you might even get away with a smaller square pack
wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted August 12, 2012 <p>Is the superstock motor not fast enough then Flexus? I was looking at them after seeing them quote 26,500rpm, I thought that would be a vast improvement over the stock motor.I will try the lipo in my brushed M04 tomorrow if it fits and let you know what happens. wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted August 12, 2012 Here is a 2s soft case 7.4Volt lipo in my DT-02, no modifications needed at all. Â Sorry about the blur, I am rubbish at taking photos.
tonysmini 19 Posted August 14, 2012 Wolfdog, I'd put a thin sheet of rubber under and over the Lipo to hold it tighter or it could short internally due to shock impact, plus it prevenst the heatshrink wearing through. It doesn't take much to split in a buggy or a car jumping all over the place, then the battery is useless (and potentially dangerous). Scratch this, just read the other thread, see you've got it covered there, lol. I broke one like this in a Kyosho buggy. Anything battery exposed I use hardcases, either yeah racing or HPI plasma round cases, they are a few mm longer but perform so much better, and I fit a dummy plug onto the chassis to hold the balance plugs or cable tie them up out of the way, (again, found out the hard way by having one come out and dragging down the road and destroying the plug) If I can stash it out of the way, Turnigy Nano-tech soft cases from Hobbyking, cheap, available in any size you want, and usually delivered within a week. and I pad out mine to stop and movement or use Axial battery mounts with the foam pad and velcro straps to secure them. wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted August 14, 2012 Thanks Tonysmini, I will do that as I have put some padding round the 3s pack when using it in the blitzer. I just placed it in there for the picture.

Alright Wolfie Yeah the superstock BZ is a LOT faster than the silvercan mate. where i run in my garden that is about the limit maybe a bit more hence possible lipo upgrade, unless i want to trash my car and thats not an option. everybody on here seems to be on/heading for lipo and with you sayin your car was quicker with the lipo then im thinking i feel the need, the need for speed. also would i get a bit more run time on the same capacity lipo? cheers Karl
wolfdogstinkus 1893 Posted August 14, 2012 I am not sure about the run-time?, I am a total newbie to this, I have one 5000mah 7.4volt and one 5000mah 11.1volt lipo and I haven't managed to flatten one in one run yet, keep on breaking stuff, lol. Before that I only had a really old 3000mah ni-mh so I can't really compare. I did have a go with the M04xL indoors with the 2s 7.4volt lipo and it does seem faster, the difference was much more noticable in the buggies as it was causing massive wheelies. The 2s pack does fit in the M04xl but I can't advise anyone to use soft case packs in cars for safety reasons.
TA-Mark 195 Posted August 14, 2012 also would i get a bit more run time on the same capacity lipo? With no change in driving style, on the same capacity pack, the runtime will be the same. Li-Po offer much more take off power (that reduced voltage sag again), hence you don't need to accelerate as hard for the same effect. If you squeeze the trigger finger less, then the runtime will be longer. As an example, I get over 1 hour in my Grasshopper with a 4000mAh 25C 2S and 4600Kv brushless (Lunchbox pinion). Rarely do I pull more than half throttle, and if I do it's only for a short burst in a straight line. Before this, with a 4200mAh Ni-MH and silvercan (Hornet pinion), I was lucky to get 25 minutes. Most of the driving was done between 3/4 and full throttle.

I think it's worth noting that in addition to the changed driving style due to power delivery, a brushless motor is also much more efficient, so this also affects your runtime positively. tamiya monkey 243 Posted August 18, 2012 anyone found a good battery fitment for a hornet or fav, looking for highest capacity i can find that fits.
TA-Mark 195 Posted August 18, 2012 anyone found a good battery fitment for a hornet or fav, looking for highest capacity i can find that fits. As already mentioned. The 134mm long Jamara hard case round edge pack will fit anywhere that a regular Ni-MH 7.2v will fit without needing to make any sort of modification to the chassis. This is the only hard case (for surface vehicles) Li-Po pack that I know of that is the same length and shape as a Ni-MH pack. To fit the 138mm long hard case packs (Intellect IP4000) into the Hornet/Grasshopper I needed to fit the pack in backwards, then cut a slot for the battery wires in the back of the tub and connect the battery to the ESC above the gearbox. In the FAV I needed to remove material from the inside of the tub with the dremel to get them to fit.
GregM 1109 Posted August 24, 2012 The Gens ace "4000mAh 7.4V 25C 2S1P Hard case Lipo Battery pack" seems to be a good substitute where you can't get a Jamara "LiPo Racing 7.4V 5000mAh 2N 30C" battery. Although it is slightly bigger (134.53 *48.23 *23.54 mm) and has slightly less capacity & C-rating (4000mAh, 25C). To compensate that, the price is lower (Gens Ace 25 € Vs Jamara 35 €). Details: http://www.gensace.c...2S1P-HardCase-8 And let's not forget about the 134mm short Yuntong "1/10 scale round case" packs: http://www.yuntong-b...tail.aspx?sid=5 I had several runs with the Jamara battery in a 12T brushless Sand Viper, and I can just praise it's quality. It holds up well and won't get hot, whereas my Carson 3000mAh NiMh gets pretty hot (but not too hot) with the same setup.
atf300 28 Posted August 24, 2012 lipos shouldn't really get hot like nimhs did
30YrsL8r 97 Posted September 13, 2013 Possibly the best investment I ever made, these LiPo batteries I bought from Hobbyking have been a great fit in a DT-02 (not a shock, I suppose), my DT-01 (modified the tub, admittedly, but they are a snug fit), my 4WD Wild Willy (under the rear bed of the body shell). I recently bought a used Lunchie that included an old-school NiCd because I doubted my LiPo would fit. Needn't have worried.... The battery was a bargain, but it's not in stock at the moment: http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=26806
CoolJetta3 39 Posted October 11, 2013 Also Zippy Flightmax hardcase (from hobbyking) fits the LB chassis. Here's mine without the leads plugged in. This is a 4000mah. Its what I use to run my LB since its the only battery I have that will fit. I have a soft case 2200mah Turnigy that I use in the Grasshopper. The only issue you may run into with this Zippy battery is it uses the banana plugs for leads which may stick up too high in some vehicles unless you solder yourself up some 90 degree leads. I had to make a 90degree lead to clear the driveshaft in my DF-03MS when running hardcase Lipos.
RSeery 1 Posted October 24, 2013 Hello, I've spent days trying to locate a Lipo pack that will fit into an unmodified TA02, and I've become somewhat frustrated. Does anyone know of a Lipo stick pack that is about 134x25x48mm? I'm looking for 4000-5000mah. I have tried dozens of links only to find them dead, discontinued, or located in the UK with outrageous prices and shipping costs... I thought I found one in the Orion ORI14171, but I can't find a retailer.... Anyone find anything new and available now? Thanks, Bob

I would recommend a Hyperion 4000mah classic pack, or Intellect Power IP2500 or IP4000 :edit: but note both are approx 135mm length too.

Thanks, Bob The Jamara 141390 5000mAh / 30C stickpack-shaped LiPo is 134 x 23.3 x 45.8mm (measured by myself using a caliper)- although I'm not sure if this battery is easily obtainable in your area at a reasonable price. Its cable outlet is located in exactly the same spot as on regular NiMH/NiCd stickpacks. Most other LiPo stickpacks use different outlets, making them a pain to use in certain chassis types. Then there's the "Gens Ace Lipo 4000mAh 7.4V 25C 2S1P Hardcase (#8) B-25C-4000-2S1P-HardCase-8" with dimensions of 134.53 x 48.23 x 23.54mm, according to Tamico.
