WTB: Porsche 959 rear lower control arms.

Recommended Posts

As the title says I'm looking for some good rear control arms for my old new built 959. It seems to be falling apart while on display and this will be the second time I replace the rear arms. So if anyone has a good set that are completely intact and not falling apart please lmk.

Thanks for looking.

Shapeways is very reputable, it's a 3D printing service where people upload their CAD drawings and make them available for others to buy. When you order they are printed and sent out, the process takes about 2 weeks. Quite a few people on here have started designing stuff and uploading their designs on there, search for pintopower and Knight Customs (or simply Tamiya) to see what I mean.

That's the first thing I did was type in tamiya and lots came up. I was particularly amazed at all the Srb parts... I think you've just costed me a bunch of money lol.

I ended up sending an email to the person with the 959 control arms...just waiting for an answer.

Hi , I have some original 959 rear arms new and used ,but if you are going to run it a lot it may be better to have some 3D printed or do what I did and get some ally ones.

Hi. .. my car is in display and the rear arms fell apart while it just sat. I'm not going to rub the car , but its so sad that only my 959 and celica seem to be disintegrating.

I'm still going to buy the 3d print arms but for the sake of originality I still want to find some original arms. please pm me what you want for both your new and used set... thanks !!

I believe I've heard that the 959 arms will break over time just from the pressure of the damper spring. Even if you display it with it's feet off the ground.

You can search the forum to see if you find the original discussion. Or perhaps it was in a showroom?

yes you're absolutely right. the car wasn't even on its wheels. .it's actually the second time this has happened. the pressure of the spring on the lower control arm seems to be causing the arms to break apart. ...that and 30 years of sitting around aging lol

Did the arms break where the dampers are screwed in?

Hi... yes... but the arm is actually cracked in half now lol.. I've released the springs to reduce tension on both my 959 and celica grb rear arms now..I can't have this happen again lol.

I had one break on my new built (back @1990) Celica, I think it was due to the screw stretching the plastic over time, I now tap the hole in the bottom arm M3 before I fit the damper screw and its not occurred on any more.

This also applies to where the front damper ball end screws in the front bottom arm, you should just check yours for cracks.

I will have a look through my spares and PM you what I have.

Yeah, I suspect this is what happened... and then with time, along with the force of the spring the arm cracks under the pressure. Looking at the arm closely though, the design is flawed and the lower damper mount should have been beefed up a bit.

I'm having the same problem with the rear arms and I have the wheels hanging loose.
Thanks for sharing this website. I just ordered a pair to see how it's like.
Disco, where can I find an alloy set of these since you mentioned it??
Thanks again everyone!

Last week there was a pair on eBay and that went for GBP 160 .

***** and rc-channel did alloy arms but both stopped doing

Hi , Not sure if you can still get the alloy arms, seem to remember they were about £75 for the full set Front/rear, Top/bottom, but some used ones went for big money recently as droopy mentioned...

Sorry I forgot to look at what arms I have but i'll look today !

Thanks so much guys. I was able to reach out and bought a pair.

Also bought a pair from Shapeways to see how they are. There is a 2-3 week lead time for the 3D printed version, but I'll be sure to let you know how they are.

I would really like to know I might go for them to and also the rear uprights.

You also found alloy ones?

I'll definitely keep you updated once I receive the ones from Shapeways.

Regarding the alloy ones, yes, I messaged the person and he was quick to respond from the link you provided earlier. Thanks again!

Good to know :-)

I did contact team blue groove a while ago about their alloy parts but was told they didn't make that anymore. And the other one that I found producing alloy suspension parts rc-channel on eBay, he also stopped producing them.

I guess another question about all of this is, what does it do to the value of the car for a collector?

Does it decrease it since they're not the original part or does it increase it since they're just as hard to find and it would now last the test of time by strengthening those weak parts that would fail regardless?

Just wondering out loud I guess.

I think it depends on the collector, one want it original the other useable. So get them both and you are covered[emoji6]

True haha. I already have an unused pair but I don't want to put it on just so it can crack again. :)
