202 mph RC car

Doesn't look much different than a Bonneville Salt Flats car, so yes, I think it's a car... (look up the SSC)

It reminded me of the Thrust 2 car.

Just think it was done with a regular silver can stock motor :lol:

Like to see what equipment were used, the set up and what was done to prevent lift off.

Did they do the return run and took ave.?

what is also amazing how they found a strip of track that is smooth and long enough to set the record. most tracks are for 1:1 run not for those tiny wheels.

So now I'm wondering what would be the more efficient way to get a car to reach 200mph+ ? Ordinary motor (presumably brushless) with lipo powering the tyres for traction, a relatively standard RC car set up that's been finely tuned

Or

A ducted fan powered super lightweight body with narrow hard wheels just to keep it straight with a little steering ability?

At what point does a car become a fast taxing plane?

I watched the video with the sound off (work thing...) How the he ll is that being steered in a straight line!

Impressive though, even if it's not built for the zomboid apocalypse.

A gyro system? I remember reading that when Thrust SSC broke the sound barrier, the driver/pilot had to hold the steering control thing to 90 degrees right just to get it tracking straight at 700mph!

But obviously an RC car breaking 200mph and a car breaking the sound barrier are different, so my guess is a gyro stabilizer, lots of practice with high-speed cars, and plenty of research to optimize aerodynamics. Quite a dorsal fin on that miniature missile...

Watched a show about a guy who was going for a land speed record on a motorcycle. In testing, they found that at a certain speed, steering is reversed. And then later, at a higher speed, it reverts back to normal.

Electric motor driven, gas/nitro engine driven, or rocket/jet powered... doesn't matter to me. Just being able to control it is impressive in my book.

Nic Case has been trying for 200 for getting on for 10 years now. His car is wheel driven, 4WD. He uses Neu motors, I believe the exact model is custom wound for his application. His steering is gyro stabilised. No standard RC car, no matter how finely tuned, will get anywhere near this speed. He has done a lot of work perfecting the aerodynamics, the other tricky part is the wheel/tyre combo. The balance is critical, and the tyre has to withstand massive centrifugal force in combination with the shear load of actually driving the car forward. Normal tyres will shred right off the rim. The last I knew, he was casting a hard foam rubber straight onto a dovetail groove machined into the rims, and then machining the whole assembly true in one set up.

I know a guy who is also trying to hit 200 with a home built rocket car. His hybrid rocket engine is home built and the power is something to behold, as of yet I think he's at around 180 mph. That last 20 is really hard to get.

Even special Rubber tires can only handle up to 280+/- mph and that is why bugatti veyon tire is over $20Keach and these rocket cars all use Al. wheels.
Power to speed is not proportional but exponetial.

She can hold onto the tailpipe and wear rolla boots. Fingers crossed they fitted a fuel dump :D

Double the speed takes 4 times the power.

Double the speed takes more than 4 times the power. The wind resistance scales roughly as the square of the speed, but the rolling resistance is about proportional to speed on top of that.

Power isn't really an issue here. Keeping the car together and on the track is the hardest challenge. It's not that difficult to get 10+ HP into a car that size, but keeping the wheels and tyres intact and getting enough stability and control is really difficult.

And if you scale BHSSC down to 1:10, it's only half as fast as the car originally posted in this thread. 2020mph in just 2.5 miles? 1:1 still has a long way to go....

I guess to be fair, 1:1 would have to race inside a near vacuum.

For £15 you can get your name on bloodhound. :)

I think if you strapped a hybrid rocket to an RC car, (need to be carefull here),in a responsible way,in a closed off area etc,higher than 202 would be possible.

202 mph+ and still being in complete control,there lies the problem,I'm bad enough with a fusion at 70!

To hit 202,in control is an absolutely fantastic bit of engineering.

Where to run another issue,LSR cars had bonneville salt flats (salt mining has seen that off), 1/10 scale also means stones are 10x bigger!
