1981 Sand Rover 58024

Recommended Posts

Hey to all, it gives me great pleasure to say I've given an original Sand Rover by my mate, he bought it off a model shop back in 1981 for £60.

The overall condition of it is very good. It is complete, but not running at the moment, all the original electrics are installed, but it does need a new steering servo has that was nicked for his RC boat.

It's also got the original radio gear, and optional motor mount with a motor, and a couple of spare sets of wheels with tyres.

I am aiming to try and pics up tomorrow.

Plans are........ I'm not sure, but the wife has ok'd me to give it a clean up and potentially shelf it.

Sounds like a great score there . I have a vintage SR and a Holiday Buggy ( HB is SR's brother ) and they are very quirky little guys . Restore it and shelve it ( after a light run indoors , just for the experience of it ) . Good original parts for these are hard to find - especially chassis parts , so look after it ;)

It may venture into the garden, I'm just stuck with weather to keep and find original electrics or wether to bring them to a modern age

Fantastic project! I have a chassis roller, but sadly not the body to start working on it. :(

Good luck with the restoration and keep 'em pictures coming! :)

Thanks mate. Found out today off the previous owner the front upper shock mount is broken thats why its got its front strut brace. So i may repair that or leave it as it and call it a hop up. Lol

Definitely leave it as is - part of the original history of that car and a period solution for that known problem!

Looks ace just like this ! Get it sorted mechanically but leave the body completely untouched, dirt and all. B)

I used to own one of those. It was my first RC car which I bought second hand. Tuned it with a 540 motor instead of the original 380 and had built a top cover to protect the gear. We had good fun with it but I don't where it eventually went. Now you got me thinking...

I love it, looks beautiful as it is! :) Ah, you're reminding me to try and find a body for the Rover chassis I have in some box here...

Interesting, have the same color scheme as mine. Some new softer tires will make it drive alot better, i used sand scorcher rere rims and tires on mine, and it looks the part. Lowers it somewhat too.

Saving the NOS tiees and wheels for the shelf.

Right, spent the last couple of days, stripping and cleaning her up. Defo needs steering links/arms, and maybe a battery as I think this original one may have had it. With a heavy heart I'm putting her up for sale. I don't have the room to store it or shelf it anymore :-(
