TWINSET 1793 Posted May 13, 2015 I'm building a Knight Hauler for a mate and he wanted the Carson steering link fitted. It just arrived today and it doesn't work. In the instructions, it shows the servo link needs moving, but that won't work as the steering link would pass thru a shock; The next issue is that although the steering link has a bow in it in the middle, by the time it gets to the threaded section it's back to dead straight, so the ball ends still bottom-out on the leaf spring/shock bracket The original The Carson Link Lock on the original Lock with the Carson Link Overlaid (and the lock is parallel) Despite what eBay adverts say, this kit does not appear to be marketed for the Knight Hauler http://www.carson-modelsport.com/de/produkte/truckmodelle/zubehoer/produktdetails.htm?sArtNr=500013516 I've seen a few pics where they're installed on chassis with a bellcrank setup for the steering, but not on a 'direct' setup like the Knight Hauler has
berman 5315 Posted May 16, 2015 Yeah I have only ever seen them on the cab-overs, where the steering servo isn't mounted parallel to the shift servo. I can understand guys that drive on carpeted layouts that want more agility with the longer wheelbase Knight Hauler. The steering has never bothered me to be honest. You could try someone like Ant88 for more insight. Actually, I have a feeling the kink in the rod was to miss the gearbox nubbin on the cab overs as gearbox is mounted further forward
berman 5315 Posted May 16, 2015 Hang on, brain fart here. Are you sure the drag link isn't meant to be mounted where the small drill icon is on both sides? That would make sense why the kink is in the drag link, to give more throw and to miss the gearbox nubbin.
TWINSET 1793 Posted May 16, 2015 The servo link goes in the new hole, if the left/right connecting link was there it'd hit the leaf spring assembly even sooner. If you check the Carson page, the link is only to be used on the Mercedes Benz (300056305, 300056307) and Volvo FH 12 (300056312)
berman 5315 Posted May 17, 2015 Yup, it probably does on the Mercedes or Volvo, but you are trying to fit it to a KH and the shocks are behind the crossmember instead of infront. Well I had my KH and MAN upside down and I am lost trying to cross reference the two.
ant88 4 Posted September 18, 2015 Correct the carson steering bars are aimed for use with all the euro rigs as the us based rigs have a different steering setup! So its a no go for using this with them!! Ant
