cvd/ UJ's on a boomerang

Recommended Posts

Hi I have an old Boomerang, not the re release and wish to fit cvd's to it, I believe I need the cvd's for the df03. Would this be a direct replacement for the dog bone and drive shaft or does the gear box drive need to be replaced? if so what with

Cheers

Chris

The CVD or the UJs are direct fit to the hubs.

Modern diff cups are direct fit to the modern CVD.

So you need the DT02/DF03 CVD and standard long splindle diff cups from Tamiya.

They are common from Thunder Shot series until today.

PS: little tip. Buy four 850 ball bearings and press them from outside into the bearboxes (not with Boomerang re release diff cups).

If you want to use thundershot joint cups on the rear, thundershot / top force UJs will also fit in the rear, not sure about the front though

Thunder Shot/ Top Force UJs perfectly work on the Boomerang.

DF/03, DT02 CVD perfectly work on the Boomerang.

Thunder Shot/Manta Ray/TA01/DF01 diff cups perfectly works on Boomerang with modern CVDs or Thunder Shot/Manta Ray UJs.

With these diff cups you can add the four 850 ball bearings.

ReRe Boomerang/Hot Shot/Super Hot Shot diff cups perfectly work on the Boomerang but without the 850 bearings added.

Does the Boomerang come with hardened diff cups?

They seem hardened because they are blackish but in my experience they went away like butter.

The 7 mm dogbone head was not so efficient, noisy and rattling.

Far away better the more modern 6 mm head from Thunder Shot series that is still the standard.

Thanks for the reply Max, I have the rere Boomerang and the diff outdrive cups are a darker colour.

Would you replace them with the 53218 hard cup set?

I used Hot Racing CVD's intended for the Wild Dagger in mine! Worked a treat, as I found the bones for the rere were too long and caused all kinds of issues.
