The Hardtop and jerry can filler will be on the top of my list to get

The hardtop looks amazing, it's a great creation.

I like the bumpers too, and the fuel can filler is very neat. Really nice work on all the parts you've done.

I think Shapeways are rather expensive though.

Yeah, I agree that Shapeways is expensive - at least compared to mass produced cast parts of similar size. That is an unfair comparison though, and a discussion better suited for a dedicated thread to that topic alone. What is a fact, besides vintage Tamiya collecting is expensive also, is that with the quality and availability of 3D printing services, like Shapeways, I can produce low volume - even one off - custom parts & hop ups for my collectables. :)

Great work simensays. Do you know if these parts will also fit the Wild Willy 2?

Well, I think we'll have to wait for prices to come down to make them available at more reasonable costs. By now I believe there's guys here making truly amazing custom parts (and very resistant from what I've heard) but the finish requires a lot of work done to them. I'm sure in the not so distant future the 3D printers will deliver a smoother finish. In the meantime, with such prices I know such fantastic parts are not in my list :(

Sure, some of the parts work for the WW2, like the Hard Top kit and Jerry Can Insert. The bumper and wheels though are different on the first & second gen WW, so they are not interchangeable.

Here are some pics of the hard top prototype on a WW2 (also posted in a separate thread last year)

I love the hard top. It looks so good it makes me want to get a WW.

Pinto, are you saying you don't have a willy right now?

I have four restored WW swb rolling chassis with painted, but not detailed bodies (complete cars), that I plan to sell, if you are interested in getting one, PintoPower :)

Simen, please let me know when these go live. Also can you make the Jerry can insert in white detail please :)

Yupp, no problemo! I will have the revised parts some time early next week...
This applies to the Jerry Can insert and Wheel Covers - the Hard Top and Bumper are already available.

Naturally I can make the insert available in White Detail also, so far I just think it cost too much compared to the Strong & Flexible Polished material.

Great stuff Simen! Seeing your work months ago hooked me - I'm restoring a couple WWs right now. Built a WW2, then came across your WW showroom and now have some projects going! Just joined here...

I will take one of the Jerry can inserts when you start. They look great.

Will you have photos of those wheels actually mounted on an M38?

Can you tell me what the difference is between White Detail and Strong Flexible Polished. I have a set of Toykid's VW lug inserts which I think are in the latter but do not know what White Detail is like.

I sure will :) The wheel covers are going straight on my Hard Top Wild Willy project, so I will update with new pics once that happens very soon.

Here are some of the progress so far, quite a few custom parts & subtle mods on this thing.
The roof rack is not screwed on, it is just a prototype test I made, but I don't like it that much, so will make another one later on. It does have wooden rails that looks good with some more weathering...

Can you tell me what the difference is between White Detail and Strong Flexible Polished. I have a set of Toykid's VW lug inserts which I think are in the latter but do not know what White Detail is like.

Sure, Simen is right, Strong White flexible polished (SWF polished) is all round the best material for most parts. Good surface finish and good mechanical strength. The name is misleading as it is only really "flexible" when really very thin, and denotes more to the fact that it is not brittle like some of the other materials, such as ultra detail.

White & Black detail, gives an even smoother surface finish, but isn't quite as tough as SWF polished. I like this material over SWF polished if you have parts that aren't going to see much abuse and you can afford the more expensive material.

I chose the SWF polished for the Knight Customs VW wheels, because they have a good finish but are they are less likely to chip or crack compared to white detail (it also keeps the cost down, about 50% cheaper this way).

I hope that helps?

James.

Haha, I actually removed the side bars from the roll bar, and switched 'em for the chains, painted them black, secured them with some clips originally used to mount the exhaust pipe on a Sand Scorcher... Just wanted to make some subtle changes & mods to this one. This is similar to what I use on my 1:1 FJ40 when removing the hard top & doors during summer.

I won a rather nice looking WW M38 SWB on ebay recently and it all looks in great condition (as far as I can tell from the small dark photos) but the wheels look a bit messy. I am really interested in seeing how your hubs look. Any real life photos yet?

It certainly does help. I am going to be priming your VW hubs tonight with Filler-Primer I bought from Halfords. Am interested in seeing if the filler part of the primer smooths out the wheels. Will let you know.

I love the look of the solid front bumper (and the bumper on my M38 is badly marked). This looks like the perfect solution. It's payday soon so I will be ordering one!
