Anybody fluent in Japanese?

Recommended Posts

I need to read the date of an old guitar catalog, and I can't find a way to do it myself.

The catalog is the only clue I have to date my guitar. Thanks in advance! :)

I had a two jap import cars, a skyline and a legacy gt. I must say when you went to subaru uk with a jap import with the vin plates in Japanese it made for interesting times. They had to take pictures of the plates to send them to Japan to get the relevant information. Still couldn't fix it, lol. Hours on google finally found an answer for the problem.

i would love to learn another language but Japanese is a bit to mental for me.

Haha, no problem. As most Japanese acoustic guitars from before 1977 mine is a copy. I believe it should be from 1974, because it's a copy of a Martin from that year. But so far that's the only clue I have. I'd be happy if I could just find out what year the guitar was made, that's all.

Anyway, here's the cover of the catalog. It obviously isn't from 1989 ;)

is issue #89. the years don't make too much sense 45 = 1945? Oct 27, than 1952 Sept 30th . I guess you already flipped through the pages to for any publishing dates. If no reply from TC...your student, any Japanese own and operated business in your area or the Japanese Embessy. Even tourist at hotels. There is will there is a way.

One post at the toys forum was enough.

Nope, 89 is the issue number. But the top right corner has the date, which translates to September 30th, 1977.

So that solves the mystery. The guitar is from 1977. :)

Showa year 52 = 1977

i think year 0 was 1925 the year their current king was born. The concept is similar to Tawian and Cambodia. For Cambodia was when the Camorouge(can't spell) took over the the country and reset the year to 0 as a new start. Good thing good guys always win in the end and Cambodia has return to normal.

Not born, my friend, but a new era starts when each Emperor is crowned.

Showa is the reign of Emperor Hirohito, 1926-1989. Record long reign, be hard to beat.
