qatmix 794 Posted August 20, 2014 I know not that many here race Tamiya onroad, but I'm really excited about this announcement http://www.thercracer.com/2014/08/tamiya-42285-trf419-chassis-kit.html
speedy_w_beans 4272 Posted August 20, 2014 Count me excited as well! I love the engineering and design details of Tamiya's top level cars! EDIT: It's funny... I was expecting more versions of the TRF418 before moving to the TRF419. The TRF417 was released in four different kits (base, gear diffs, X, and V5), so I was thinking they would at least do a second version of the TRF418 with a little more flex... AndyForbes 63 Posted August 20, 2014 Very interesting, I was seriously considering a FF03 in the near future, wonder if they will bring out a normal plastic chassis FF04 shortly too. According to Tamiyablog the FF04 Evo has a XV01 front gearbox setup, which from memory moves the motor slightly further backwards over the FF03 setup, but as the FF04 Evo will run TRF418 front arms, means it cant run IFS any more, as the 418 arms don't have holes at the rear for push rods? Could be an interesting design.
speedy_w_beans 4272 Posted August 21, 2014 It's surprising to me that a FF04 EVO is coming out before a standard FF04, FF04 PRO, FF04R, etc. It's not the normal progression. I guess Tamiya did release the TB04 PRO before the base TB04, then jumped up to the TB EVO 6, but to go for a full carbon FF04 EVO before the standard models is something new...
Cplus 94 Posted August 21, 2014 I know not that many here race You could have stopped there Looking forward to seeing some pictures start to leak. The anticipation of such a model is almost as exciting as the real thing, cause in reality, it is unlikely to make me faster than I am with the

Tamiya probably got tired of us acting like we know it all and decided to show us up. Lol
Raman36 1656 Posted August 21, 2014 I'm always excited about TRF41X series... I'm just not sure about the numbers for the next one. TRF42X doesn't sound as nice.
XV Pilot 1936 Posted August 21, 2014 I think it is a clever move on behalf of the marketing department, releasing the full race spec FF04 before the basic basher version. Because they probably realise that FWD cars are not as popular amongst bashers and casual racers, they are releasing the full-on FF04 first, in hopes that it will generate a few impressive victories at top level, which will in turn drive up demand for the basic model when it is released. Cplus 94 Posted August 22, 2014 Where in the world are FWD racing classes popular? We have mini racing here in australia, but it is stock M series only.
SteveU30 1011 Posted August 22, 2014 I'm gonna guess Japan
qatmix 794 Posted August 22, 2014 There is a class in the ETS for Fwd along with F1

Raman36 1656 Posted August 22, 2014 In the automotive dictionary, Fwd is sacrilege. An abomination
XV Pilot 1936 Posted August 22, 2014 The clubs I raced with while studying in South Africa raced FWD and 4WD touring cars in the same classes. The tracks were quite open and flowing, so it was a strategic decision whether to go for a grippy 4WD that could accelerate quicker out of the corners, or a FWD with its simpler, less draggy drivetrain and resultant higher top speed. Raman36 1656 Posted August 23, 2014 Must be the neanderthal automotive dictionary ...Americans used to think corners were an abomination Neanderthals had it right.. Most auto brands that switched to FWD in 80s/90s are presently switching back to RWD As for Americans and corners.. The middle of the country doesn't have any corners to manoeuvre around.. For those of us that live on the coast however, we have us some nice canyons to carve

Raman36 1656 Posted August 23, 2014 Maybe in the US but the rest of the world is sticking with FWD & 4WD! I didn't mention anything about 4WD. Toyota GT86 is RWD it's predecessors Corola and Celica switched in the 80s to front wheel drive. Alfa Romeo: next generation will all be switching to RWD. The new duetto spyder will be RWD, the replacement of 156/159 will be RWD. Those are not American cars!

DaveB 151 Posted August 23, 2014 I'm australian & even I know front wheel drive sux! FWD sucks?? You've obviously not driven any Honda Type-R's, probably too busy loading up the ute..

True but you're talking about one low volume sports car in the entire Toyota range, the rest of Toyotas line up will never go back to RWD. If you were talking about sports cars exclusively then I would agree that manufacturers do seem to be starting to make them properly again (RWD). Ordinary family cars however are destined to stay FWD though, heck even RWD stalwart BMW are going FWD with the new 1-series!
Raman36 1656 Posted August 24, 2014 That is in fact my argument. Family cars? Who cares about family cars if Tamiya released a kit with a Prius would you buy it? Lol.. Heck no.. The love for RC onroad = the love for scaled down race cars. I've owned plenty FWD cars and always wished they were RWD. Can't stand the torque steer, the under steer, the inability to steer while the rear is hangin out.. It's not fun IMO.. Sorry. Anycase this topic is off it's track so let's get back to reality
Butler 338 Posted August 24, 2014 Back to the topic? Interested on the new ff04, I like the close racing it offers for us amateur racers. Like the minis, but better over a track that's not billiard table smooth.
redzone 212 Posted August 24, 2014 FWD sucks?? You've obviously not driven any Honda Type-R's, probably too busy loading up the ute.. I own a mechanical workshop, so I have driven just about every model of car on the australian market, I have driven type R Hondas, Pug gti's etc, I even owned an N14 SSS Pulsar for a while, rest of the cars I have owned have been rwd for good reason. Its just more fun! Especially love the Mitsubishi Starion, one of the best chassis ever made by a Japanese manufacturer. Drive a well maintained one over a mountain pass & you will be in lovvvvve..Oops, derail, back to topic! Any detail pics of the 419 yet? The name suggests more than just detail changes..
