Marui "Hunter"

Recommended Posts

HI!... I picked this Marui "Hunter" off of Ebay for $40. Seems in really good condition. Front bumper has a few scratches on it but that's about it. I will be basically tearing it down, cleaning it and putting it back together. I've already ordered a new body, decals and headlights for it. Should be a nice addition to my shelf queen collection.

That was pretty awesome and well shot, well done! It reminded me of the times I use to drive my Marui Galaxy at the Port Adelaide beaches.

Interesting how the rear suspension arms and gear cradle looks alot like the old sand rover/Holiday buggy from underneath, while the front of the chassis has some visual resemblance to the grasshopper, even though the layout with battery etc is different.

Was this released before or after the sand rover/holiday buggy?

Its as if that rear suspension setup would retrofit on SR/HB as the suspesoon arms and mount points are very similar, but with no means to attatch to the tub of SR.

The Hunter was released in 1984 (Galaxy variants in 1985) and the sand rover/holiday buggy was released in 1980/81.

I doubt the parts would fit, but it was a good setup and didn't seem to bounce as much as the grasshopper that I was also considering at the time. I was also looking at the Frog, but that was out of my price range :D.

My only disappointment with the Galaxy/Hunter was the idle gear on mine kept failing.

The parts dont retro fit however a few years back i had a scrap holiday buggy and scrap hunter so i did a hybrid. The hunter gearbox section grafted onto a holiday buggy chassis - worked a treat and instant diff.Went well as I recall, I sold it and it, did stay on TC I think but not seen it in a while.

sounds like an interesting hybrid, any pics :D  From the last couple of Big Bear build threads that have been on here lately I'm keen to try a Big Bear with a grasshopper rear diff. I'm hoping its just a matter of making new swing arms that fit over the grasshopper diff.

Have you bought one of there Decals before?

Yes, I used the company for my Marui Big Bear resto.  The stickers are high quality and accurate.  The BB had some funny lines the stickers needed to wrap around and they fit perfectly.  It came with several extra stickers that I ended up giving to the neighbor boy to put on his department store truck.  Not to mention they are $50 cheaper than ebay originals.
