Percymon 2184 Posted November 11, 2013 looking around for some cool stuff for Xmas (son, not me) and I spotted this quad with FPV.. http://www.wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/204057/?gclid=CO7SkP_Z3LoCFdPItAodJwYA2A No idea whether its any good or not - any advice / comments welcome At that price i appreciate its not going to be the best image quality, the best plastics etc - but 99% of these things are made in China so probably not a lot to choose outside of a Walkerra one. Thanks in advance
Tamiya1/10 382 Posted April 12, 2014 The quads are catching on here. Saw several at a specialty shop here in HK. No price yet but they are about 600mm in diameter with dual blades (top and bottom) per rotter with the frame in carbon. Man's toy or serious money. Add on a go pro camera, batteries radio gears, one could looking a few grand. Kind make Tamiya stuff pocket change.
Gruntfuggly 562 Posted April 12, 2014 I got myself a Hubsan X4 (without video camera) for christmas. Cost about £25 - and worth every penny. Bags of fun and fairly resilient. I've had to buy a spare set of props and a guard but that's it. It's survived lots of crashes and a couple of dunkings... Still haven't mastered it but I can fly it round the house and garden fairly well now. Definitely steeper learning curve than a car, but nowhere near as bad as a heli. Theibault 1535 Posted April 12, 2014 I have a couple. I fly my minis in the house and ive had an xaircraft 450 for a few years. You can see videos on my YouTube channel.
berman 5315 Posted April 12, 2014 I have a helimax 1sq, love it to bits flies great outside! Missus bought me the 1si with the camera but I wasn't interested in the camera and it looked less nimble than the 1sq so returned it. Wouldn't mind a phantom dj1 vision
yogi-bear 2288 Posted April 13, 2014 I'm in the middle of building the bumblebee. It'll have a simple gimble in it with a go pro as well as a small camera to see where its pointed at. I intend to add full motion tracking at some stage. The cost so far has been around $450 for the Turnigy 9X controller, helicopter, motors, escs, gimble onboard av system, etc (but not the camera). No small change, but still a lot cheaper than a few years ago. I'd like to eventually work my way up to an octocopter and film of rugged coastlines, but those a serious dollars.
