Unnecessarily expensive "Mountie" from a Radio Shack Rock Runner (Not Bruiser)

Recommended Posts

So I picked this up a while back

and recently, I started thinking that if I put this under it:

scx10-short-wheelbase-chassis-conversion

and then bolted these wheels on, it'd be pretty cool. I'd even get to try my hand at styrene to fill that gaping hole in the hood/bonnet.

We are looking at it! This would be a nice undertaking - if nothing else, something different!

Don't fill the bonnet hole, make a blower to fit in there.

i concur.

What happened to the chassis? If axial, the frame is metal.

It came with a bolt on blower actually. I removed it (still have it) because it's very not scale.

Where's the bruiser?

Technically I should have said Mountaineer, but it was late and I wasn't paying attention.

The chassis picture is an Axial SCX10 with the wheelbase shortening kit installed

Put the three iems together and you'll have a competent crawler for sure.

Is it a Bruiser, with the nostalgia etc, etc ? No

Horses for courses - you can spend a lot more money than the cost of a Bruiser at RC4WD store if you want a semi capbale mutlispeed crawler

Yeah the intended "joke" is that at the end, I'm going to be left with something that looks kinda like a Mountie, but is likely to cost me more since I don't currently have the Axial or the shortening kit (or the wheels) - not to mention time, and painting and possibly fabrication and custom decals...

I once bought a set of wheels there that cost more than the truck they were going onto.

Oooo they look nice! Where did you get those beauties?

its an accessory for a Lightning McQueen toy that came out around Cars2 time.

It comes as a whole lump of chrome, but can be dismantled for DIY detailing.

I like to slap on a range of different silver/greys and blacks, not hard.

What scale Wills?

it looks pretty scale for a smallblock on a 1/10 touringcar IMHO, like the scoop on a Clod.

I used the plastic engines from the 1/18 scale Muscle Machines cars to do both of these rides of mine

Nice Claw Dogs.

Got the stickers off the body with tons of elbow grease and "Goo Gone" Man they sure didn't put stickers on that securely back in the day when didn't want them to peel

Sorry guys but a huge blower in the front of a Yota, just didn't seem right to me

RockRunnerholefilled.jpg

It's not the greatest fill job (first time with styrene and Tamiya putty) but it'll do.

Got some paint on the body. I decided to go with yellow so it wouldn't be as noticeable if and when it gets dinged during running. (also re-did the ridges on the hood/bonnet)

Quick question, does anyone know how the track width of an SCX10 compares to a CC01?
