Paulwolf350 19 Posted October 4, 2015 Want to build the ultimate blackfoot/ monster beetle (have both bodies). This will run front and rear aftermarket alloy shock towers, crp shock/body brace, crp underbody brace, Thorpe ball gearbox, 14x4 motor, esc, lipo batteries and imex wheels. Has anyone got a lead on good 90mm alloy shocks for this build, I'm keen on a set of no name ones off eBay but don't want to waste my money. So what is the killer item for these chassis? Frog Jumper 3661 Posted October 4, 2015 I've been using Yeah Racing 70mm and 80mm shocks on my Frog... They seem to work well... I have a couple extra bottles of their oil (250 rating) if you want one... Terry
Paulwolf350 19 Posted October 4, 2015 Where did you get them from? Can't see them on eBay
Frog Jumper 3661 Posted October 4, 2015 Where did you get them from? Can't see them on eBay Yeah, that's weird they aren't on there anymore??? And thinking back, one of my sets is an "Xtra Speed" brand... Its basically a "Yeah Racing" clone... They were cheap-o EBAY shocks, ran me about $10 per... Frog Jumper 3661 Posted October 5, 2015 Try this guy in the UK??? The silver ones he has are (per looking at the pix on FleaBay) a clone of the Yeah Racing/Xtra Speed shocks I got... He even has a red set that may match a red Blackfoot??? http://r.ebay.com/Kldq3z Good luck, post pix! Terry ETA... for some reason, I had it in my head that you wanted 80mm... I re-read your post and see you want 90mm shocks... sorry!
Frog Jumper 3661 Posted October 5, 2015 I thought about switching out my Frog front suspension arms for those from a Super Blackfoot (parts C5 and C8), but never followed through... I have always wondered if the Super Blackfoot front axle knuckle would fit a Frog front end, and vice versa... Terry
Paulwolf350 19 Posted October 5, 2015 Chere's for the link, I'll bookmark that seller. Lots of good stuff in there. Yeah you can run the super blackfoot arms, if you also run the super blackfoot knuckles, you will also need to run the super blackfoot spindles. They talk about doing this in the Blackfoot reliability guide - http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=40416 I am going to do that with my ultimate blackfoot
Frog Jumper 3661 Posted October 5, 2015 my ultimate blackfoot Sheet! Then you need to go with a repro Sassy Chassis: http://r.ebay.com/p1g3L3 I hope you have an ultimate wallet to go along with this! Ha! Terry
Paulwolf350 19 Posted October 5, 2015 Haha I wish, I am using an original red chassis, maybe it should be called the penultimate blackfoot
Frog Jumper 3661 Posted October 5, 2015 Haha I wish, I am using an original red chassis, maybe it should be called the penultimate blackfoot Word... I didn't make that move either... Re-re gray for me... My original had one too many striped out holes and cracks... Terry
Paulwolf350 19 Posted October 9, 2015 80mm will prob be fine anyway. I just set up my CVA shocks for my original blackfoot, built them as 84mm and they are way long enough for it
Scapelnz 204 Posted October 15, 2015 Looking forward to seeing how your build turns out. I have also ventured along this road and really enjoyed the build. I have done a long list of mods so if you have any questions etc feel free to ask

Paulwolf350 19 Posted October 23, 2015 Looking for some info on ESC and motors capable of supporting lipo batteries. There seems to be so much around. Looking at around 3000kv motor and a decent ESC to control it. Any ideas?
Paulwolf350 19 Posted October 25, 2015 I'm thinking of getting one of these to start with Then I can upgrade or change to a different setup later if it is no good. With brushless motors I believe 3300kv will be quite speedy, but will it have enough torque to move the large Blackfoot tyres?
