hammerstien 187 Posted November 18, 2013 Well had my 1st indoor race just over a week ago running my sand viper from the DT-02 challenge been changed a bit since raced at challenge as was just built a few days before . 1st qualifier took my standard holiday buggy out just to see how it did fastest lap was low 16 seconds which was not bad as the losi 22 and other moddern buggies were doing low 14 seconds and was 8th fastest over all in 1st Q 2nd qualifier took the sand viper out was going to run the hb again but nipper at club blew his esc so lent him the hb he was worried he would bust it but told him go for it and not to worry . Sand Viper was a bit of a hand full after the hb but did get used to it after a few laps did less laps but set a faster lap low 15 seconds 3rd qualifier was getting better still wheelies if i put power down to hard but was final made head of b finals was having a great race till last corner till 3rd place crashed in to me on last corner and 4th piled in as well the marshal freed 3rd place car 1st so lost second ok since that outing have done a bit more setup changed toe out to about .5° but left camber at about 2 to 3° at front running light oil in shocks now 30 front 35 rear in the nice trf shock i got off Mr Weston . have 50g pf weight added to front plus filled plastic front bulk head with lead so must be getting on for 70g total .. Electrics i'm running Turnigy TrackStar One Cell 1/12th and 1/10th scale ESC as run it in my gt12 car so already know its a nice esc plus have a Turnigy 13.5t motor with timing turned right down .. now on order are a pair of shorty lipos turnigy A-spec ones plus have tl-01 hing pin set to fit with spacer already have fitted allie rear hubs and turn buckle set as bent standard ones and tamiya ball diff on way . next stuff to get is the carbon fibre shock tower extenders and cvd drive shaft and shimming the front and rear arms to try and cut down on play in them hope to have Video's of track up soon but as i was taking them none of me racing with a little weight added well thanks for looking
super gripper 419 Posted November 18, 2013 The car certainly looks good. I had to massively shim my DG to get rid of the play, with moving the alloy hubs rearwards and the shims I gained 5 - 6mm in wheel base Still not overly convinced with regards to flipping the front arms, the geometry is all wrong. The suspension turn buckles are not straight and the steering turn buckles should be rearwards not forwards. Still interested to hear how you get on. I have some Turnigy gear too. The 100amp esc. Maybe I will be brushless next year at the DT02 challenge 2014. The ball diff when you get it will stop all your wheeling
Jedward 89 Posted November 18, 2013 Great to see your thread up and running. We ran the DG using the ball-diff for the first time Sunday with Zero wheelies = result! There's lots of DT-02 activity on the forum right now, which is fantastic to see :-) Following with interest...
hammerstien 187 Posted November 21, 2013 Well shim kit and hinge pins have come as well as the tamiya ball diff all fitted ready for next week Surprised how many I had to use to take the slop out of arms but a lot better . Now wheels need to be changed as they are the only thing that has to much play in for my liking
super gripper 419 Posted November 21, 2013 Alloy C hubs and alloy rear uprights/hubs will get rid of even more play. They also help against the 'twisting' forces applied when racing. I have 3Racing C hubs (stellamodel) and 5 star rear hubs/uprights (these are now like hens teeth) what are you end of race motor temps chap ??
hammerstien 187 Posted November 21, 2013 have the 5 star rear hubs already found them one night on e-bay late night unable to sleep they popped up and bought in an instant .. motor temp with 19t pinion and 13.5t motor after a race can keep finger on motor warm but not to cold will get temp gun on it next meet as want to see how 17t pinion goes
JWeston 493 Posted November 25, 2013 More proof that the DT02 chassis is EPIC for tinkering with and having a blast. Nice shocks
super gripper 419 Posted November 27, 2013 How did you get on with the ball diff fitted ?? I know people can have a mare with it at first, it needs to be run quite tight. Also never put ceramic balls in. Remember its a limited slip diff therefor the balls need to be tungsten ideally. Ceramic ones will flat spot and screw the diff. Mine has been good for years, took a bit of tinkering initially but now I know how to set it its brill. Lots of ball diff grease, tighten it more than you would a normal ball diff. Sounds absolutely awful when rotating the wheel by hand to check its ok but that is right and how it should be otherwise it will keep coming lose.
hammerstien 187 Posted November 27, 2013 Well built ball diff same way as always have tighten it till its fully tight the undo 1/4 a turn put in car then power up and see how much slip is there when holding both back wheels with the throttle on about 1/4 power. Will grab a second ball diff and build up with tungsten balls My ball diff was great really spot on didn't even have to change a thing with it must be my years of setting up meteor ball diffs . That was the best bit of night had a bit of a nightmare of a night other wise Front tyres were shot after a few runs so had no ability to turn in turf rippers great tyres but boy do they wear out fast Tried car out with arms flipped and in normal position but with tyres that only really have 2 runs in them was hard to tell difference but did notice on the wall ride corner with the longer arms tended to over steer a lot compared to normal way round front arms . As for motor temp gunned it was 95°F 19t pinion and with 17t was 92°f Now looking at new tyres now not sure what to run on carpet on a hard surface looking at Dboot TERRABYTE tyres or Schumacher yellow mini pin and cut staggered fronts with hard foams but have noticed that the Schumacher mini pins or mini spikes are not much better than the turf rippers for race life time
hammerstien 187 Posted November 28, 2013 ok few shot of the track
hammerstien 187 Posted December 20, 2013 no up date for some time as at last race took my re-re rc10 and bigwig was fun but neither were setup right as am waiting on 2 servo's for my sand viper from Hobbyking as have given up on the Turnigy TGY-4409MD Metal Gear Digital Servo 9.45kg / 0.11sec / 44g the seem to not centre right all the time and they seem to be very slow and had 2 fry and 1 of them took rx with it .. BMS-661DMG+HS Super Fast Digital Servo (MG) 6.4kg / .08sec / 46.5g TrackStar TS-400MG Digital 1/10 Scale Touring Car/Buggy Steering Servo 42g / 9.45kg / 0.11sec
hammerstien 187 Posted December 28, 2013 ok quick update servo's turn up and fitted one in racer one in m8's racer dt-02 to compare the bms is quick little unit twice the price of the trackstar but hardly notice a difference between the 2 . now have a pile of turnigy 4409 servos to get rid of or just stick in the bashers where it don't matter as much
super gripper 419 Posted January 1, 2014 When is your next lot of racing ?? Any big trophy events ??
hammerstien 187 Posted January 1, 2014 racing on Tuesday 7th jan no big trophy's events no point same people win every year but boy are they good .. and still need tyres wheels xmas cost to much and pay brca membership
hammerstien 187 Posted January 16, 2014 Well been quiet on the sand viper racing at min waiting for tyres and wheels . But did race my Maxxum ff went well once setup for track but didn't really get that far in qualifying as had problems with gearbox then rear shock blew a seal
hammerstien 187 Posted January 22, 2014 ok time for an update final took the sand viper for a race night and handling is now getting near spot on may need to change rear shock oil to a grade harder but with the new bluebrird servo boy is the turn in better still a touch of under steer .only did one lap in Q1 as had and problem with car But after that was sorted went well no wheelies with ball diff need the tungsten balls for it though soon . Q2 and Q3 was fast and stable was beating losi22's and Schumacher's managed to be pushing for the A Final was only just knocked down in to 1st In B but as the guy is running a lovely old rc10 and good friend at club can't complain . Have now change to Schumacher blue mini pins on rear and yellow cut staggered fronts as last night wore out another set of turf rippers in one race meet

hammerstien 187 Posted January 27, 2014 well looks like i mite have a few fans in the fast boy group now as a couple are asking about set-up on my dt-02 and buying the trf shocks for their losi 22's and asked if will they be allowed to come to the dt-02 challenge this year with standard holiday buggies or MOD class think supper gripper has started something in fun racing in UK

If they want to do the mod class (which would be better for them) please can you supervise and make sure they follow the mod class rules. One new rule that might come in is if a 10.5 is used then it will have to be on a blinky setting.

One new rule that might come in is if a 10.5 is used then it will have to be on a blinky setting. we run 13.5t blinky on brushless and 27t stock brushed with timing up to 35% and to be honest my well setup sand viper is only 2 secs faster than my hb on brushed rig but think thats more down to it being kept stock running gear but with same wheels tyres as sand viper have the kit wheels and tyres ready in box for next dt-02 challenge plus one fast boys who want to come is the scrutineer at club he's a good one to will give you advice on how to get car legal or will help get it legal we get checked at book in at every race meet some people complain but i find it stops some of them arguing about cars being legal after races they go back to a scrutineers bench
super gripper 419 Posted February 1, 2014 We will be doing as we did last year and have Simon as our scrutineer. The Rules from last year (2013) will stand for this year 2014
hammerstien 187 Posted February 9, 2014 Well racing this week didn't go well had a few problems not with my car but m8's had to rebuild twice during race night 3 racing shock towers are terrible screws keep coming loose end up super gluing them in he then managed to bend the steering rod and upper tie-rods front and back So had no time to setup my buggy . Some how still managed to qualify 2 in B final but with lack of setup tried to sort it out just before final but went wrong way which made it handle like a shopping trolley had to pull out after a big hit and shattered servo saver
hammerstien 187 Posted February 20, 2014 Ok racing this week was not great new tyres and the car would handle after changing setup and trying different tyres end up back with my very worn turf ripper front and standard Ansmann mat rat rears . Q1 was a shopping trolley back end would come round on hard turns and light braking so just pulled off and cut it short Q2 esc battery connector came off so had to sit that one out Q3 still with the new tyres on and still no rear grip even with softer rears on did ok but was well off my normal pace C Final 1st time for a while in this final but with the old tyres back on and setup back to how i had it was off and flying by the end was 5 or so laps up on second place and was only 3 laps down on the A final winner motto for this week if it ain't broke don't change it you idiot
Jedward 89 Posted February 20, 2014 motto for this week if it ain't broke don't change it you idiot Ah, that sounds familiar. I am learning to leave well alone if all is well. Looks like you had a tough time, but it's all good practice for this year's DT-02 challenge!
hammerstien 187 Posted March 19, 2014 Well didn't post after last race meet as was a bit of a nightmare transmitter was faulty would shut down or beep and freak out or just lock up With new transmitter and after last time was down in the C group for qualifying Q1 Was car 1 and stayed that way but was understeering like mad but did 16 laps Q2 added a bit of preload to rear shocks and was better but not great was still having to be really slow on the turns 17 laps Q3 more preload on rear shocks and a touch more drag brake . last run was great 18 laps was fast and stable and was in for a A final spot right up to end of A groups last qualifying only lost it by a few 100th of a second B Final was car 1 was well chuffed my little cheap Dt-02 leading out with a losi22 Schumacher Svr and Ae rc10 b4 was one very tight race me and the losi swapped places for the lead every lap but i was always in 1st at the line came down to losi doing an mad bin it or win it on the last set of turns as sensor loop was only a couple of feet out from final turn i gunned it to but the losi collected my rear end and we flew over line upside down and in the air ( wish i had a vid camera running ) well after what seemed like hours computer finally put up the results my little Dt-02 did it and won times for both were 303.002 19laps Well happy with the night now to change shock oils from 35 front 30 rear to 45 front 40 rear and think i will have it sorted
