CoolHands 816 Posted October 9, 2011 Not denigrating TC, but I was just wondering is there a very busy rc forum that most racers use? (uk biased if poss). i.e. not tamiya focussed like TC but just all makes focussed. For all I know there is a massive forum I don't know about cheers
WillyChang 1814 Posted October 9, 2011 RCTECH is probably the main forum for rc cars & racing across the board around the world, biggest & been around the longest and usually the backup run-to option for most RCers some mfgs like Traxxas have their own forums; HPI used to but haven't seen for a while. There's also others like RC10TALK that are more vintage/classic focussed. there's other forums either run by magazines or youtube celebrities eg URC also country or city-specialised eg AUSRC & MelbRC if you're into drift, DRIFTERCENTRAL covers worldwide but many major cities have their own groups there's also many "info" blogs with latest news & race results but they aren't forums eg RedRC, BigSquid, RCRacer

I am returning to racing this winter with my TA04-r I am planning to spend as little money as possible - got all my old gear out, and just need to buy some new batteries. I already have loads of spares for ta04 that I bought last time I was racing (a few years ago).
Origineelreclamebord 45 Posted October 9, 2011 Don't forget oOple It's mainly offroad, though there is not a ban on talking about onroad cars I don't know how big it is compared to RCTech, and I know many if not most members are from the UK, but it's a pretty active forum! WillyChang 1814 Posted October 10, 2011 maybe I just need to ask my questions here. I am returning to racing this winter with my TA04-r I am planning to spend as little money as possible - got all my old gear out, and just need to buy some new batteries. I already have loads of spares for ta04 that I bought last time I was racing (a few years ago). ask away meh most "racing" forums are full of keyboard kiddies who wouldn't know squat about RC unless its a 2012 model, & even then... TA04 might be ok if you were thinking of VTA or similar spec class raced this back in the day:- most parts still available but somehow TA04 bits are pricey compared to current TA04/5 releases...?! Only part that is HTF today is rear gearbox housing, dunno why. fullbore racers have gone the 415/416/417 layout for a long time now, used rollers from that era can be found dirt cheap definitely you'll need LiPO and preferably a brushless combo with lipo cutoff built-in. LiPO is like running a 7c NiMH with half the weight, no way nickels can match them. Brushless is also here to stay.
CoolHands 816 Posted October 10, 2011 the problem with lipo is they are in square cases (at least the cheap ones are). So I was going to buy these but then I was told they won't fit my old TA04 chassis without cutting, which I don't want to do http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/u...idproduct=13398 here's my ta04 chassis: (old pics a few changes to stuff but still basically the same) http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.a...384&sid=684 So I was going to stay with nimh? WillyChang 1814 Posted October 10, 2011 no way, you'll get lapped within less than a minute in... buy something smaller like 4000; preferably with the corner corally bullets too (rather than end wire exit) http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/_..._Approved_.html "ROAR Approved" may also be a factor in your decision. HunterZero 76 Posted December 13, 2011 Wow, those LiPo batteries look incredibly cheap. Have you tried them Willy? - James
TA-Mark 195 Posted December 13, 2011 These are the best round edge hard case Li-Po pack I've found to date. They are the same dimensions as a Ni-MH stick pack. 35C packs (IP-RW2S4000V3) are US$42 on ebay, 25C packs (IP-HC72S4000V2) are US$38, and the 20C packs (#IP-CS2S4000V1) are US$32. They have the ROAR approved sticker on them too. Search ebay for: Intellect 4000 lipo or their website http://www.rcstation.com Replacing the Tamiya plug is a must though. humbug 36 Posted July 6, 2012 Do they still have racing classes for old tech (for nostalgias sake)? ie brushed motors and nicads or even nimh if they are feeling high tech?I know there is the silver can class, I'm more interested in brushed modifieds that I've bought from many many years ago. (Also I've never raced in case you were wondering)
