Mountaineer Re-release #84386 (Mountain Rider)

Recommended Posts

Every re-re deserves it's own thread so off we go. :D

Announced as the "Mountain Rider", it has now been confirmed as the original Mounty, no doubt sitting on the Bruiser 2012 chassis. Who is getting one then?

Doh you beat me to it Wandy, I just posted in the general, I would have maybe got one if it wasn't a limited edition but,no way I'll have the cash spare in the time it'll be around for.

Although I hope like the avante bs the decal sheets will be available to purchase from the e bay sellers.

Chris

Not me. Holding out for the Blazer.

Well I will be getting one, but not until Xmas or January for my birthday, as this can be my runner and the Bruiser can live on the shelf. I don't expect these to fly out of the stores since most people who wanted this chassis probably fulfilled their wishes with the Bruiser. I suspect Tamiya themselves know this, which is why it is coming out on a limited number.

*sells kidney*

But in all seriousness, the logic behind making it a limited-edition re-release is sound, though I hope it sells well!

I'm top of Stella's pre-order list at present - but with my Bruiser re-re still sat in its packing box, I'm not sure its worth me buying another similar truck. The limited release isn't even much of an appeal - there's only a certain market for these types of nostalgic Tamiyas, so its no short term investment.

It's my favourite of the 3 so I'll definitely be wanting one, will depend on funds and price at the time of release though!

I'm probably the 2nd behind Percymon on the pre-order list. I was hoping it to be a slightly different being limited perhaps different decal or something. This going to be steep purchase for me due to current economy, I get paid far less than before. So I need to to sell off some of my stuff soon and figure out ways to hide the funds and this kit from mrs.

What is the most amount of motor this chassis/gearbox can handle?

I have waited a long time for this. After the Sand Scorcher, this was the next on my list. Hoping Tower get a Pre-order set up soon.

So it does indeed adopt the Mountain Rider name. Mountaineer is seemingly licensed out elsewhere now.

Maybe the camera but the wheels and roll bar appear to be dark chrome, still sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet though!!!

Yeah, it is probably just the lighting but they look more like anthracite than chrome, but it looks like that would work better anyway!

Might have to bring this purchase forward now, that photo has got me drooling, lol.

I wonder if they will include the slipper clutch as standard with this one, and promote it as a "Hopped Up" Bruiser?

If not, they should at least throw in the driver figure :-)

Limited edition, I wonder how many will actually be produced? I imagine we're talking many thousands, certainly more than the couple of thousand that AE actually made of the RC10 Classic? Nonetheless, I always said I would get one when it was released so have banged in my pre order with Stella  :D

How do you pre-order with Stella? I can't seem to find any reference to this on their website?

It sure is nice to see this re-released. I had a original years ago, wish I never had to sell it.

They're best kept on shelf & admired as a scale model that you can RC on occasion.

Just for gentle cruise around your lounge room or golf green :)

Original came with 750 motor and in 3rd gear that motors along scarily fast... and doesn't handle.

Swerve whilst at speed and it'll turn turtle quite easily. Shock abosrbers are useless.

1st gear 4WD runs at about jogging pace but puts a lot of stress on transmission.

Leaf springs give little articulation (I think half of that comes from chassis twisting!)

hard kit tyres have low grip.

If you fang it hard like in the promo videos, you'll be buying a new truck every week.

New ones come ready for 540 motor... many ppl put in a 55t brushed motor.
