futaba tx 4ch

Recommended Posts

I brought my first truck saturday and along with it my lbs sold me the futaba 4yf sport 2.4ghz 4ch system to go with it

Know I want one with the gate tbh but they said they don't sell ones with gates with them.

Know never owned a 4ch trans before it all new to me know the throttle lever don't return when losed the steering is as it should be know call me stupid but is that not a good thing for the throttle to do.

Tbh at first impression,s I don't like it I am thinking of phoneing my lbs and asking them to swop it or refund.

Is this system any good or is there and better one for the same price ( I payed £91.99).

The 4YF is marketed (by Futaba) as an 'air' radio so what we refer to as the throttle stick isn't sprung.

The truck version of that radio is the 4YWD but I've not found a UK stockist but it does come with a shift gate and a return spring on the throttle; http://www.stellamodels.com.hk/futaba-4ywd-24ghz-attack-txrx-p-7604.html

Imported from Stella, the cost is around £95 if you miss customs charges (allow for another £30-£35 if you get hit)

I've been looking into truck radios too, there's a Carson one that's advertised as truck-compatible, the 501001;

If you have the 56511 or 5623 MFU then a template to make the shift gate is included in the instructions - just make one out of plastic card.

If you need a scan of the template then PM me with your e-mail address.

Tbh I dought I will be installing a mfu in the truck.

For what I'll use it. It will be a waste of money for me I'll sooner buy the trailer and hop ups

That Carson transmitter is officially approved by Dickie-Tamiya Germany for Tamiya trucks and multifunction units. I haven't got my hands on it yet, so I can't comment on the quality. There are some reviews, here are Google translations:

EDIT: It seems there are several stick transmitters by Carson, you can find PDF manuals online (multiple languages including English):

I just received my Carson from those nice people at Fusion!

Impressions on receipt (not connected it up yet)

:) It's huge - I can't reach the centre of the radio holding it normally.

:) Both sticks are sprung in all axes

:) Top left switch is a momentary (doesn't lock in 'on' postition, but springs back to 'off' when released)

:) Top right switch is 3 position, handy for winches etc.

 Feels substantial but a little plasticky compared to Spektrum's DX6 and 8, but once there's 8 AA batteries in it, it should be a decent weight

:( Battery door's locked shut with a small screw although there are two spring clips to hold it shut as well

:D Fusion also sell a shift gate for it too

Will post up some side-by-sides with DX6i over weekend if I get the chance, in the meantime...

On the front of the grand hauler box it says to use the futaba/tamiya 4ywd but as per usual tamiya ain't released a item for a rc.

Was looking at the dx6 but they come with digital trims witch according to the guy in my lhs t needs to be none digital to work best with the 2.4gig. So I gave home mine back to sort the throttle stick by putting it to spring back know if I decide to instale the mfu in the future this with work fine with no probs as the new mfu,s are compatable with 2.4 gig.

So just gotta learn how to use the 4ch.

Update on the Carson;

Both 'shoulder' switches are 3 position (winch friendly), the left one doesn't lock in an 'on' position whereas the right one does.
I've opened the case and swapped the switches round, the right (now momentary) switch controls the 5th wheel servo - Now I can sound the horn and hitch a trailer B)

Maybe later - the wife's just shot the stopper on a bottle of Prosecco so I might leave it for tonight

Just necked a glass and feeling ever so slightly smashed already!

That's a great mod twinset.

I did what I said I wouldn't yesterday when I was at my lhs and that was I brought a mfu for the great price of £250 GBP couldn't resist at that price. The vibration is great on your truck twinset. Just waiting on a price for the tamiya tr torque tuned truck motor know and if I get a good price on that witch I know I will then when that arrives the build will start.

I am telling you but killing me for it to be sitting in the corner of the bedroom staring at me.

Then the big one is will I do a heavy haulage Australia paint job.

Having the 5th wheel R/C isn't a mod, it's part of this; https://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=56505

I daresay you could mod the stock hardware to do it (there's already a release lever on the chassis, just cobble it up to a servo) but the leg set includes all the bits to do it and have the legs extend or retract.

The kit, MFU and leg set all include their own fifth wheel plate too - you end up with a lot of spare bits of plastic!

Yeah the trailer will be got in a month or so along with the motorised legs.

Just gotta replace a few things on my 1.1 car first that's a priority as it gets me to my lhs every weekend lol
