Recommended Posts

Hi all, just been asked by my cousin in oman about the best rtr for a 6 yr old to get him interested in rc, i suggested any quick drive, what do my educated fellow members think? He doesnt want to spend over £150, go for it.

changed to cousin as this doesn't like the word c u z.

A lot will depend on local availability and also spares as accidents will occur. Liunchbox is fun and always popular with kids. Mad bull shares the same chunky wheels in a lower sleeker buggy format , goes well in all but long grass

+1 for Lunchbox, nearly indestructible and a lot of fun with kids. Hornet could aslo be good choice, but it seems today's kids arent too interested in buggies, and its faster so it could break during a crash, depends on where you want to run it.

Traxxas Slash is the best RTR you can buy right now. They take a beating and every single hobby shop has parts for them.

My soul wants to recommend a Tamiya product, specifically a Mad Bull which my son has, but for general use and beatings, it is hard to beat a Slash especially for local parts availability.

What about a crawler? Maverick Scout is only £119 from Modelsport!

Go for a kit and build it with your kids close to you. IMO it will be a full RC experience from the beginning and, in the future, they will remember every moment.

Remember: "toys they're not!" and building it will underline it :)

I would have to go with JeepnMike.

The Slash looks awesome - you can see full size ones racing in Traxxas livery that look almost the same (squinting). They are very nearly indestructible (YouTube has video of them jumping houses!), I ran mine straight into a tree off a jump at full noise (10.5T brushless) at our National Champs, Crowd has a collective OUCH, Slash just gets up and carries on! They can take crazy power and keep on trucking and do great donuts which is what a 6 year old wants to do, other than jumping houses. They are too heavy and centre of gravity is too high for proper racing but for bashing - Awesome. My Slash is the only RC car I let my mates drive :P

I have a Midnight Pumpkin kit that is waiting for this very purpose - simple build that I hope he will enjoy - for now he has the attention span of a gnat so we just want to bash lol (he is 4 btw)
