Speed Passion SP1 F1 with brushed motor?

Recommended Posts

I am ankle deep (doved in head first) in F1 and my current fix is Speed Passion SP1 and i have a question for those have or know about SP 1. I am not a fan of brushless motor nor do i know much about them. My question is ...will SP 1 motor carrier take a brushed motor? I noticed there is no top bar on the motor mounted and the sales photos are all with brushless.

I am just old school. i stay with brushed motor as no soliding required and Nicad betteries as i can still use my existing charger. is all about money and space.

Thanks, and 1 more question... would you know if the kit comes with the front piece that can change it to f103 or have to buy separately? Thanks again in advance.

You would have to buy a whole f103 front end , the sp1 chassis is pre drilled to accept the 103/104 front ends , but you will need to buy the option parts , you can potentially assemble various front ends and rear axles to give a modular system that allows relatively easy adaptation for any track condition

Hi Alfagta, thanks for the replies. The seller got back to me and advises that I need to buy the 540 brush motor mount at 10% value of the kit. I managed to down load the manual and it seems there are drilled holes in the front for f103 and f104 settings for the stocked arms. Mind you i found some info for using the pieces from Tamiya or buy the optional f103 pieces. Is confusing or maybe the updated version can fit brushed motor and set as 103 or 104 without spending anying more.

It seems the bracket is for 540 motor, which could be for brushed and brushless or only brushed motor comes in 540 size? On reading SP site, i think puting the front arms at the outer holes will extend to 190mm only. if one wants 200mm front, than either use Tamiya's 103 front or buy from SP their 103 front arm set. I guess no SP SP1 for me as i prefer f103 dimensions and still have few f1 to build so what i see from SP is not enough to pick one up. May change my mind later.
