Re Re Sand Scorcher Shock Oil Choice and Alternative Shock Choice!

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm going to try once again with green slime to have leak proof shocks.

I have a choice of 3 shock oils in stock, Pink 800 Hard, Clear 900 Hard or Light Blue 1000 Hard.

Which oil would be best to use and should the oil for the front shocks be different to the rear?

I've also seen these shocks which I like the look of;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381032568424?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D381032568424%26_rdc%3D1

Does anyone have any experience of them? Do they work? Are they easier to use? And do they leak as easily as the Tamiya ones?

All replies gratefully received!

Thank you

G.P

Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to use those aftermarket shocks yet, but I know using thicker oil is a good way to start with the SRBs. Also, have you tried to install the shocks upwards?

I'm interested in seeing how these shocks pan out, I've just picked up another Scorcher and was thinking along the same lines.

Does anyone know if the springs are functional, as in you could remove the standard spings/torsion bars and run with them as-is, or any other suggestions??

I don't know why I've never thought of using fork oil, I've got 6 motorcycles!! Great idea, I've got a few different weights kicking round :)

I've always used light shock oil in my SS, 300 weight. The torsion bars on the re-re are quite soft, so having heavy shock oil will slow the movement down of the suspension even more. I've been using TamTech shocks on mine also, not bad at all and look good.

I read somewhere that the 'rc channel' shocks do leak....so I bought a set of 'RC4WD 80mm shocks' for my RR and SS for the front...no leaks and they work well !!

For the rear, I bought a set of 'gpm racing mini-t 60mm shocks' ...so far so good! :-)

Would love too but I can't find the "attachment button" to upload (or is it download?) the pics.....I'm not very good in computers, so sorry!! Could you help me out, please?

btw, here's the parts that I used:

(1) 'RC4WD Dual Spring Threaded Alu 80mm Shocks [Z-D0039]' which I bought on ebay : rc-recyler.com

(2) 'GPM Racing Alloy R.Adjust Spring Damper (60mm)[sMT360] which bought at : asiatees.com.hk

For the rear, I "doubled" the shocks by making my own home made shock mounts....

I have finally taken the plunge and bought a tasty new-built Scorcher over the weekend. It comes with some lovely hop-ups but I want to sort out the shocks.

I have seen a few different takes on what shocks to use and am trying to work out the exact sizes required. I am sure I have seen somebody use 80mm RC4WD shocks up front (maybe with the Rogue Elements Baja kit). I believe they have a 73mm uncompressed hole-to hole distance.

I think the problem may be around the rear. Am I right in thinking I need 60mm ones there?

I am very tempted by thes 70mm and 80mm ones from RC4WD... but I guess the 70mm won't fit unless I build a custom bracket.

Could anybody tell me what the uncompressed hole-to-hole distance is on the rear shock?

Rear srb shocks fitted :

uncompressed 55 mm hole to hole

compressed 43 mm hole to hole

You can file down the little nubs that stop shock travel on the A arms a bit to get a little more travel uncompressed

Unfitted

The shocks bottom out at 43 mm

The shock extend to 56.5 mm

Terragni

That is really useful.

Many thanks
