Sunday Fun-Day with my Unimog

Recommended Posts

Got a chance to run my Unimog today and I had a great time. This was my first time driving a crawler and now I can really see why crawling has gotten so popular lately.

I put together a few of the videos I took today and posted it to my YouTube channel.

Excuse the poor video taking skills. I was using my iPhone to record and drive at the same time.

Thanks in advance for viewing!

Foam, yes...wheel weights, no. I thought of the weights during the build but decided against it in favor of reducing the overall weight of the vehicle. But you are correct, it would probably be a good idea to.

A question though...would adding weight to the wheels help balance out the CR01's top heaviness?

Nice Unimog!

Adding wheel weights will definatley improve the top heaviness as it lowers the centre of gravity a little, I've not owned a CR01 so can't comment on other mods that will help though.

I run an XC chassis Pajero as a crawler and have built it to be intentionally heavy as I feel it handles more naturally that way

I can vouch for the Fastrax tyres, they're very good for the money. I'd forgotten about them as I run some RC4WD 1.55 wheels and tyres on my Pajero.

Wheel weights will certainly improve on its top heavy ness . The stock tires are't the best either - compound is too hard IMO . Try something like these with wheel weights fitted and you'll see a big improvement .

good quality and a decent price .

Well I am running RC4wd's Militant alloy bead lock wheels which are heavier than the stock plastic wheels, as well as RC4wd's Mudslinger tires. I have access to automotive wheel weights here at work, so I'll most likely give that a try. I do not look forward to disassembling those wheels again though :(

it will be well worth the effort . Add as much weight as you can . Slightly less in the rear than the front helps as usually the front loses traction first .
