Tamiya Lunchbox PLEASE help

Recommended Posts

I have stumbled across a huge issue with my Tamiya Lunchbox. I have no clue how to occurred and I have no clue in how to fix it. When I interact with the controller nothing happens, I have 0 control over the lunchbox and it is very irritating.

Here is the issue in an unlisted YouTube video, PLEASE, PLEASE watch the video as you may have seen the same error. I will be so so so appreciative if I can sort the issue as the Tamiya Lunchbox is amazing, I'd hate to see it go just like that.

Did it get wet?

Looks like it maybe a problem with the receiver/ radio?. Have you got any spares to swap around?

No 2.4GHz binding involved here, since from the video it seems to be a Tamiya Finespec branded AM or FM radio set. OEM might be Futaba.

This rules BEC issues known from 2.4GHz receivers out, too. :)

If the receiver got wet, glitching like this is likely to happen.

pull the plugs out of receiver, and swap them over one at a time. if that doesn't do anything, you might have to look for a new radio set?.

The flysky units seem to be well recommended here.

The light on the transmitter shouldn't be flashing, it should be a solid light. I'd try a different set of batteries in the transmitter first before going any further.

Have you got the crystals the right way around (tx crystal in the transmitter and rx crystal in the receiver)?

Also is the steering servo plug in channel 1 and the ESC plug in channel 2? Are they fitted in correctly with the black wire closest to the right side of the reciever?

I'd be tempted to strip all the electrics out of the chassis, take everything apart and inspect if for damage. If looks ok then reassemble it away from the chassis one piece at a time and test it. If it's an AM/FM set could it be getting interference from something close by, even the motor if it's old and unsupressed?

If all else fails have you got £17 to spare?

I'd recommended them :D

Can you take a few close up pics of the esc and receiver in the car so we can see what you're working with?

Looking at the video in the first post, I think your batteries in your TX were almost flat, hence why the controller was flashing away.

It could be that your receiver is knackered. If it got wet then chances are it's got corrosion building up inside. It also could be that the speed controller (teu104, the black ribbed bit on top) got water in as well and that's had it, or the steering servo.

Make sure your battery is fully charged.

Try unplugging the servo first and see if that stops the stuttering. If not then it's time to look at replacing the other bits one by one until you find it.

Whereabouts are you based? Perhaps there is a member nearby who could provide some hands-on help?

Pop over to the next Clumber Park meet a week on Sunday, there'll be about 20+ people who can help. It's not far from you, check out the thread in the meets section
