Etronix / Hobbyking glitching

Recommended Posts

I know a few of us on here use either Etronix or Hobbyking branded receivers, in particular the miniature HK3100 receivers. It is the latter which I seem to have an issue with on my TA03F.

Switching it on (2S lipo) and nothing is wrong, the steering centers and the throttle remains in neutral. After about 30 seconds of running the steering servo starts to glitch, it's not under any stress (end points adjusted correctly) and the red and green lights on the receiver begin to flash independently. Shortly after this the Tamiya ESC bleeps as though it has no signal.

Any ideas? I can try another receiver later as I've not had this issue before - in fact I've even used the same combination of ESC and servo in my FAV build and that runs brilliantly.

Any help appreciated

Do these receivers feature a built-in BEC, so they can be fed by full racing pack battery voltage, if connected to a ESC that lacks a BEC?

The latter is the case with the TEU-101BK and -104BK.(Sorry for double post, can't do edits on the phone using Tapatalk)

It's a TEU302 (should have pointed that out earlier) so has 6v output to receiver.

Nothing gets hot and the gear train is free, it literally runs as I want it to for like 30 seconds before having a bit of a fit. Last time it applied full throttle straight into the skirting board before cutting out! :( it's quite an expensive build so I would rather it didn't do that again haha

I've had this with the blue HK3000 Rx, pretty much exactly as you describe and it was the Rx at fault. Even though the HK3100 is a better Rx they're still not what I'd class as high quality so I'd start by swapping it out as my money is on that.

Greg you should be able to edit your post in Tapatalk, just tap on the post and an edit option should come up?

Yea that's my only thought, is that it can only really be the receiver. I have about 10 of them now and never had a problem :(

What are HobbyKing like for returns? This last batch were only purchased about 10 days ago!

I've never returned anything myself but I've read on numerous occasions that people have had headaches trying to get issues resolved with them. If you bought from UK warehouse though it may go a bit more smoothly so certainly worth a try if it does turn out to be faulty.

Hmm, uk was out of stock at the time so this was the EU warehouse (Belgium).

I had read the same to be honest, I'll give it a try though as whilst £10 for an rx is cheap it's still £10!

hi,

i would try all the new batch ones you got , see if any more are bad , once thats done get in touch with HK via live chat and tell them which warehouse you got it/them from , have the order number handy , explain the issue and ask for replacements , they will instruct you how to return stuff , as they are quite a huge company things take a while to go through the correct channels , if its only one rx thats bad then personally i would right it off and order a new one ,

good luck

:)

Ok, I never got trouble with TEU-302BK, but had one or two glitchy Carson BEC receivers that were replaced under warranty.

Steve, the edit function only works partially. It might be an issue with the recent version of Tapatalk on my phone and the (outdated maybe) version of the forum's Tapatalk plugin. I'll let Twinset know about that issue.

If you are going to return it, I would suggest you get video footage of it not working. When you return it, they may "determine that it is in working order", and only refund the cost of the product, not the shipping.

Hopefully you can get it to work.

I feel like such an idiot.

Case closed; nothing wrong with the electronics - just the operator.

The steering was binding slightly on full-lock, which in turn was over-loading the BEC and causing the receiver to shut down completely. Quite a neat safety feature.

EPA's adjusted further (now all the way down to 60%) and not a single problem...

I am hopeless.

On the contrary, I don't think I would ever have thought of that. Good to know those HK3100s are more reliable than it appeared.

Yep, can 't believe I was so stupid. It's not even like I'm a noob, and this is a very noob error!

On a TA03 the servo is hidden down quite low, so it was only when I had it on the bench looking carefully I noticed the problem. It also appears that the TA03 steering can't take much travel, as the steering started to bind (arms against front gearcase) on about 65% travel.

I will look to see whether I can engineer some more steering angle in - it's been 8 years since I tuned one of these chassis but I seem to remember the front uprights being able to support a second ball connector position closer to the hub which resulted in tighter steering...
