ChrisRx718 4470 Posted May 29, 2015 So with the latest film from the franchise almost upon us (June 10th release) I wondered if there were any more fans on Tamiyaclub? Anyone who has seen my scale build projects will know I'm a pretty avid fan - in fact I have about 5 different RCs themed around the movies. I'm hoping it will encourage more people to embrace the old movies too, in my opinion nothing has or ever will top what the original 1994 film had. I was only 6 at the time it was released, yet fully immersed when my parents let me watch the film on VHS when I turned 8. It was like the best thing ever. I wanted to be a Palaeontologist not long after watching it, I collected hundreds of books, plastic model dinosaurs and would spend ages creeping around the front room with my treasured Jurassic Park T-Rex puppet. My dreams of becoming a dinosaur man were all-but gone by the time I was a teenager, now the only knowledge I have is the ability to remember certain obscure dinosaur names - something which proved useful if a little embarrassing on a recent trip to a theme park which had static dinosaur models! I still love to daydream about the far-fetched possibility of re-producing these prehistoric beasts, which is again something I'm ashamed to admit as a 26 year-old! I just hope that they don't get this film all wrong and re-capture some of that magic which made the original such a timeless piece. Here have some pictures (no thread is complete without pictures) Unimog project anyone? It's a shame there aren't more easily-obtainable Mercedes G-Wagen bodies either (Nikko ones attract stupid-person tax)
i_am_scarecrow 913 Posted May 29, 2015 My son and I are huge Jurassic Park fans, we've watched them all many times. I saw the original at the cinema, it's certainly ones of those all time great films!
Nobbi1977 1793 Posted May 29, 2015 That unimog could be a go with the new body just coming out
GregM 1109 Posted May 29, 2015 When Jurassic Park was released, I was 10 years old. Unfortunately the movie was rated for 12 years and older where I live, so I wasn't allowed to watch it until the VHS release. When the VHS came out, I already had dug deep into Jurassic Park by movie books, sticker books, videogames and of course the offical JP toy line. I was a dinosaur nuts back then, and just as you Chris, I wanted to become a paleontologist (try writing this without peeking into a dictionary), having fun digging out old dusty dinosaur bones. The first movie is a classic. The second one, Lost World, was OK, but even as a teenager I realized that something looked off to me story and presentation wise. The third one, yeah... I saw it one time and I think I forgot most about it, might be worth watching again sometime. Two or three years ago, I bought the two novels Jurassic Park and Lost World by Michael Crichton. Man, these are definitely worth a read, I enjoyed them a lot. So cool to see in retrospective that the first book was written in the late 80s and published in 1990, and it stood the test of time very well. And it goes deep into scientific technobabble. Gorgeous. The second book develops the story further and has a serious tone that I appreciate more than the light hearted action-oriented style of the movie. I'm looking forward to Jurassic World with excitement!
Wez-li 1790 Posted May 29, 2015 Can't wait for the new one, Chris Pratt was superb in Guardians of the galaxy so hopefully he'll turn in another good performance here. Think I mentioned on another thread that watching the original in the cinema would stay with me forever, people sitting on the stairs because it was so overbooked but no one cared because the film was unreal! Looking forward to the Lego game too, it covers all 4 films
chriss76 91 Posted May 29, 2015 Can't wait for the release , taking my eldest daughter and really hope this has the impact on her that the original had on myself although she is a bit older than I was at the time of the original. I'm a huge huge movie fan especially of the 80s, my wife who is 7 years younger just doesn't get it bug growing up in the video age was the best. Hope this lives up to the original as I have high hopes for this film. Chris
ChrisRx718 4470 Posted June 3, 2015 My partner has booked us tickets for the 12th! This is 10 days before she is due to give birth to our second child though, so hopefully he/she doesn't come early!

Scapelnz 204 Posted June 6, 2015 It's out on Thursday in New Zealand and I'm cutting work to go :-) hopefully the boss won't mind! Luckily I'm self employed
mr crispy 2293 Posted June 7, 2015 Just been re-watching the first two films with my 7 year old (fast forwarding over any gore:)) this weekend and remembering how good they are. The 3rd one is on later. We've been collecting a one of those "build your own" magazine Trex skeletons too which will end up almost as tall as she is! Looking forward to the new film... if the Mrs will let me take Crispy Jr 😏
ChrisRx718 4470 Posted June 8, 2015 Well that's put an end to my plans! Our daughter was born early on Thursday so I'm hoping the cinema will be understanding and reimburse us for the tickets so we can go at a later date! I guess I'll be waiting a little longer now

SteveU30 1011 Posted June 8, 2015 Wow, great news but also slightly gutted for you about seeing the film knowing how looking forward to it you were. I remember watching the first film in the cinema, I would have been 15 at the time. I remember leaving the cinema absolutely convinced that what I'd just seen was entirely possible and it would only be a matter of time before someone did it! That scene in the Jeeps where they see the dinosaurs for the first time is just cinema gold and the CGI has stood the test of time pretty well.
mr crispy 2293 Posted June 8, 2015 Congrats Chris, great news mate.
ChrisRx718 4470 Posted June 10, 2015 Thanks guys, enjoying being a dad to baby number 2. Luckily the folks at cineworld were understanding and refunded us our tickets. I am kind of gutted though, I'm hoping it will be on the big screen for a few weeks and maybe I'll get the opportunity to go when little Daisy has done a bit of growing. Loving all the Jurassic World advertising campaigns and memorabilia already (don't tell anyone but I also had a little browse of the range of toys which have already hit shelves!) I also really like the lego kits and the look of the official lego game which is on it's way. The latter is something I could possibly get away with buying and claiming it is for my nephews haha
Scapelnz 204 Posted June 13, 2015 Saw the movie on Thursday, really enjoyed it! Its amazing how far movie technology as come in 20 years, was very similar to the first movie but with much better CGI
Wez-li 1790 Posted June 14, 2015 Saw this last night, felt like the true sequel to the original. Top entertainment!
chriss76 91 Posted June 14, 2015 Well not long back from watching this with my eldest daughter and have to say it lived up to all my expectations. A very enjoyable film but it's a pity my 5 year old is a bit young for it as I'd love for her to have that cinema experience of a Jurassic park movie. Chris
SteveU30 1011 Posted June 14, 2015 I wouldn't worry too much Chris, I'm pretty sure there'll be another couple of movies after this one so she'll get to see one at least when she gets a bit older.
chriss76 91 Posted June 14, 2015 I was kind of hoping that is would be the end of the franchise Steve as it would be a fitting movie to end it on and I'm sure anymore will not live up to the previous films, but I guess there will be more if the interest is there. SteveU30 1011 Posted June 15, 2015 I've just seen that it's smashed box office records for an opening weekend so I think we both know what comes next!
Scapelnz 204 Posted June 18, 2015 Was I correct in hearing that it grossed over 500 million in its opening weekend?
mr crispy 2293 Posted June 18, 2015 Doesn't surprise me, it's one of the most entertaining films I've seen for a long time. It did not disappoint at all 😜 The one thing that bugged me were those gryo stabilised hamster ball buggys. I couldn't help thinking they would just be plastered in dino poop as soon as they hit the fields 😳 It's a shame Tamiya didn't do an official tie in with their new CC01 Unimog and the truck in the film!
