  1. I wish they did a Re Re of the Boomerang... My Local RC shop has an Avante 2011 re-released version... he's asking way too much for it though... so I just look at the box and feel like I'm 10 years old again, wanting something I can't have. One day... ONE day...
  2. What kind of dark sorcery is this!?!?! I had no idea MS had THIS kind of power! Well Adobe can't do that... so... I had to ask for help
  3. By the way I cannot add any avatar because every time I try it says it cannot be a file bigger than 1kb!!! O_O how is that even possible? I can't find anything that looks normal with such a low res and less than 1KB in size
  4. Truthfully I can feel in my gut that my involvement with this hobby is going to be somewhat a long one, perhaps as long as I can carry this with me. I see my self being very much like you, I raced as a kid, never professionally or seriously, but for fun and on occasion I can see my self taking it up again for fun. But would prefer to hang with those who appreciate the nostalgia in it and just doing it for fun, not anyone who's out for blood. I think I enjoy building them much more than racing them now, that is why I'm aiming to buy the HotShot and making it a shelf queen to just appreciate the legacy this little gem of Tamiya has bestowed upon us But yes, I too would hate to sell them, so I'll try to keep them in my collection too for as long as I can. But I hope to share the fun with my kids one day, I just have to build them first with my wife It helps that my wife is into RC cars too, maybe not as much as me as she's never had one as a kid but now she's got the Holiday Buggy (somewhat of a pain to drive as it's pretty slow, I need to put a 540 engine into it). I'm a filmmaker and a photographer, so I do enjoy the values behind this amazing community, love the creativity, ingenuity and camaraderie between the racers, builders and collectors, it's a very healthy eco system of social interaction and it feels like old days when people share their passions for the hobby. I'm planning on doing a documentary on this and will most likely start a kickstarter funding for this but it would be for the fans and all those who have a passion for the hobby. I've been gathering people slowly but surely who'll be part of this and I will include quite a few as this is a passionate aim of mine to bring this documentary out to the world and share the wonders and history of this fantastic hobby. It's still very early in the process but it's going along very well and I am excited about its journey. -Stephen
  5. This all makes so much more sense now, thank you. AND HELLO fellow 77errrr... ;)It is a pleasure meeting you. I must confess I don't meet many from 77. Well I'll try to get one of these models at one point, aim to get the DB01RR at one point, right now I'm just hogging as many as my wallet allows from the ones I wanted as a kid. It's very rewarding to finally be able to pick it up and own it after so many years and remembering how much I wanted a HotShot but never got one... I got a freaking Grasshopper II instead, that was a terrible car. I still liked my original Grasshopper more than the other one as it was just nicer looking and the Grasshopper II had a narrower body so it was impossible to steer with a 540 motor. :/ Do you still race? Or just collect these now for fun?
  6. OMG what!??! DB01RR and DF02 and TT02B!!??!??!! I was born in 1977 and I'm starting to feel very old... I should know this right? I thought Tamiya still had cool names and such, I don't even know how to picture these model numbers. Is this one model or some kind of series of models that I don't even know how to phrase the question... Sorry I'm a total newb... Any link comparison of these models? Again thank you for replying, but I'm at your mercy when it comes to figuring out the difference between these. It's an all new game for me... Going to New York in October but I can't find a decent Tamiya dealer anywhere UPDATE: I found the DB01RR, strange name... but i looks cool This one right? And the DF02 is this right? Then there is the TT02B which comes out to be this one: But then which one is this? I think I need to educate my self on the new series of Tamiya line up of RC cars... :/
  7. Yes in deed, this thread will most likely be revisited a number of times in the future, as I see the HotShot family to be rather famous and attractive to many. Seeing how you just so happen to have the majority of the HotShot family, I can say that a certain green tint has appeared on my skin, not Hulk green but envy green I can also get really cheap the BigWig and Terra Scorcher, but I want the classic robust BATMAN shaped HotShot! I'll have to design my next project for the HotShot as a Batman type of shell just to have an extra type out there. I think I'm convinced, I'll get the HotShot ReRe, then if I can still catch the cheap Boomerang, I'll get that and rebuild it. Thank you all for your replies and sharing of experience, means a great deal to me as I'm just reigniting my flame for this hobby and I love it! Heck I even started buying the old vintage Tamiya catalogues!
  8. I agree, it's an awesome car. Having looked at the history of these cars, I can see the appeal and honestly no other company has even matched their design or legacy. Kyosho has some nice cars but it's so different in the sense of building them. I always wondered about them, but never bought any of their cars. My plan is and as I wrote to Steve, the HotShot original is most certainly first in line to be bought and assembled. I'll try to do the hop ups and complete it. My wife would like the LunchBox, but that looks like an entirely different type of car, not sure she'll like it though, she thinks it looks cool but... not sure she's going to like driving it. SO, my back up for her is the Aero Avante RED. Which NEW type of Tamiya car do you recommend me? I was thinking about the Aero Avante or something like that to try out, but for my self, I was thinking about getting the Avante one day but even that is a rerelease... so which of the new fleet is worthy of mention? Thanks for your reply
  9. Thank you Steve for your reply, I had originally completely forgotten about the boomerang, it wasn't until recently as I was looking at which car to buy, I stumbled upon it again as I did some research on the HotShot Family. It's strange how the one I have which is the re issue of the Grasshopper, is still in production or at least I assume, as you can get them just about everywhere these days. Yet that was released in 2005. It is my hope that Tamiya will soon re release the HotShot II, that was my favourite and it's nowhere to be found on eBay or any other places. If I do find some, they are grotesquely painted and in such poor condition, that I might as well just get the Avante. I'm glad to hear there are not many differences between the original Boomerang and the re released one, this kind of gives me hope and I could just get the one I found and use it as a project runner. I found one used, looks like it was a runner, most certainly not a shelf queen. It costs $110 with shipping and it's relatively nearby where I live so, same time zone If I can afford it, deepening on which car I'll find cheapest in Japan, I'll get that and start my work on it. You see I agree with you, the SuperShot re-release is overpriced, but I did find it pretty darn sheep, like price wise if I had gone for the HotShot, if I pay $50 extra I'd get the SuperShot, which would be a total of $220 which is the cheapest I've seen it for so far. IF I cannot get that, then I'll get the HotShot, it's a really good looking car and I am considering getting that and making it a ShelfQueen. The Era for the HotShot Family is far from over, I see tons of fans and people still in hot pursuit of finding one, original or re release. I love these cars and as you all can gather going from the Grasshopper, handling will improve ten fold and give me an entirely new experience with a 4X4 car. But I think this is the plan for now: • Buy the HotShot (Found it brand new re re) • Buy the Boomerang original used • Buy the SuperShot IF I can find it as cheap as I mentioned to you again, then I'll replace the HotShot with that and get the HotShot next time. Early next year or around April I'll get the Avante. Another gorgeous car. I guess I just feel into a collectors vibe
  10. Dear racers, I know it's been a while since anyone has posted anything here in this discussion but, I'm somewhat new to the game. I used to race as a kid, with my Grasshopper and Grasshopper II, wasn't anything serious but after puberty I kind of feel in love with the ladies and RC Cars took a backseat for a long long time. I'm a kid from 77 so returning to the hobby now, with my wife, it's a lot to catch up on. I re bought my re released The Grasshopper for my self while I got my wife the Holiday Buggy. I prefer the Grasshopper with my 540 engine, though it is terrible to steer. Terrible handling in general. I need some help in deciding as I've found a strange combination of a new purchase I wish to make this week. I've always found the HotShot series to be magnificent, though I hear they all have some quirks, but I'm considering getting now that belongs in the HotShot Family. The thing is that I'm undecided. I was aiming for a SuperShot, rereleased version. But the guy is out of stock now and it might take a bit of time before he's got any again. So in the meantime, I've found a very cheap HotShot released and an ORIGINAL but used Boomerang. The boomerang chassis can be found all over ebay, so I could make it look great again, but the worry I have is that I wouldn't be able to improve the car to at least the same quality as the recently re released boomerang. I cannot find the re released boomerang anywhere otherwise I'd get that for sure. My question is this: Can I upgrade the original Boomerang to the same quality upgrades the re released got or even better, or is it a lost cause as it might cost me more hopping up all the parts? Finally what were the major differences betwee the ORIGINAL Boomerang and the RE released version? I'd love any wise racer or builder to throw me some wisdom my way as I'm feeling I'm really behind with all the details of the modern age of RC cars. Thank you and hope to hear from you soon
