  1. May I presume you have not spent thousands on your collection? Well I have, and I did that to buy the cars I could never afford in my youth. I sacrificed a lot to do so now, and you suggest its not a passion? Now I find out I could have waited and spent peanuts. If you cant see how that is disappointing, I don't know how to explain it further. Besides all that, you miss the point. Had people not faithfully collected these cars, the ReRe's may well have never happened. We proved the market for Tamiya, now they devalue it. That's insulting. Not only that, those who cant afford it are now getting almost the exact same thing off the back of the investment serious collectors have made. Having some one in that situation begrudging my annoyance is even worse than Tamiya devaluing my collection. Its is not that the collection is devalued as such, its that I spent a fortune that was ultimately not necessary, and that Tamiya has dumped on the very people who made the ReRe's viable. That's logical and reasonable, and despite what I said, not bitter and twisted.
  2. Very nice an all that, but that's the end of me collecting vintage cars. Bad enough when the Re-Re Frog came out, now this. All that wasted time, effort and money. Might as well stick the whole lot in the bin. Better that than sit here looking at collection that reminds me of my mistake getting in to this in the first place. All that money, all that time, all that effort, just blown away with every re-release. Sweet, really sweet. Thanks a lot Tamiya. Dump on the dedicated vintage collectors. Cheers. Sorry if that sounds bitter and twisted, but that is exactly how I feel right now. Gutted.
  3. Avante series hexes fit the 959. You can fit 1/10th wheels to those. As for the rear hubs, there are ally replacements out there if you search. But personally I worry about adding strong ally hubs to weak plastic arms. Ok, ally arms, but then they attach to the gear box, and again you have the same problem. So, personally I would drive the 959 rarely and carefully using original parts. Cracking car though.
  4. My jaw is currently on the floor. How is his business appreciated when as you your self say, nearly every thing you have ordered has problems? Then you say his R&D is a concern? Well, that kinda writes off every product. If he is Mr CAD/CAM/CNC then he has no excuse for all these issues. I mean, how one earth can you get a bumper wrong? If you cant get a bumper right, what chance an axle? Surely you make a prototype and see if it works first, no? And if it doesn't work, you don't sell it as a working product to the public. Then, why not get current products right, instead of increasing the range? Seem to me he is more interested in expanding his business than offering solid working products. I have often visited the site and drooled over the stuff there. The pics look stunning an beautiful, and I used to dream of getting the cash together to make a major purchase. About $2000 worth. But if everything one orders is gonna have issues, and then to make matter worse get no communication or fix, why spend any money with him? Seems like madness to me. If I spent that kinda money and got what you guys describe, then got the cold shoulder an no fix, I'd be furious. Frankly having read this thread Im amazed he is still in business. He seems expensive, his products appear to be pretty but rubbish, and he treats his high paying customers with contempt. If he we an ebay seller you chaps would be tearing in to him something rotten. He may well be great for trying, but are we really willing to fund his attempts? If so, they not bung him $1000 and invest in his company. Seems better value in the long run. Failing that, please send me your money. I honestly don't *want* to run this guy down, you chaps seem to have done that already. I *want* to buys his stuff fit for purpose. What I don't get is the continuing support. Honestly, think about what your reaction would be is this guy was an ebay seller? He would have loads of negs by now, and you would all be cautioning member against him. Weird. And before anyone starts on me for being so negative, I am only basing my comments on what's posted in this thread. Its your experience and comments, not mine. It is however my potential $2k. And its not going to this guy.
  5. Um, why does it seem that many are defending buggies by saying some are "scale". The man don't like buggies!!! He said nothing about them not being scale at all. I personally don't like the road cars one little bit, scale or no scale. The older ones are nice, but the newer ones are so generic. I don't get the crawler thing either. The are interesting from a technical POV, but the look are far our as modern buggies do. As for spaceship buggy shell, I think that to do with cost and function. And I how is the Avante ugly? Any one who thinks that doesn't deserve eyes. Its certainly a "space ship", but its still beautiful. The chassis alone is a work of art. Wild One? What's the appeal?
  6. Quick brain wave. Do those props have flat ends? If so, just wrap some electrical tape round the flat ends to take up the slop to see if there is any significant difference. If nothing else it should run a little quieter. Granted it wont last that long, but it might prove some sort of point!!!!
  7. Those sway bars locate the front suspension, and stop it from moving , er, forwards / backwards. With out them the front will be sloppy or, become sloppy very quickly. I'm guessing, but I reckon they are missing from the chrome car because its not used, and they would scrape at the chrome and ruin it. You can see where screws are used to replace them, so they could go on. I personally wouldn't run with out them. For shelf purposes, it doesn't matter.
  8. Ooops didn't want to put you off. Dunno how many cars you have, but if you have a few, how about getting a hot motor that will work in your other cars? Then if you kill the diff you can cheaply replace it, and / or give up and use the motor and esc in another car? No harm done then!!! Not a bad idea to use a moderate motor though. Should still be quick enough for fun. Might still kill the diff in the end though !!!!
  9. Another way to sort out the frog diff is to shim it properly. Of course the gear box plates must be in tip top condition and not bowing out. My runner frog is perfectly shimmed and runs a 13x2 motor with no problem. And do go for a set of UJ's. Also, make sure there is no wear in the rear arms, the mounting plates and the holes in the gearbox plates where the arms locate. You don't want the arms flapping about. In my experience, you cant really completely avoid risking the standard gear box, as its inherently flawed. Back in the day, my gear box lost the plot with the stock motor, let alone any modified motors. But, get it right, and the Frog is a great car.
  10. Stuff the front end, those frog shaped battery holders are a must !!!!!!
  11. Cheers guys. I'll follow those up.
  12. What, 5 mins and no reply? Only joking I hope you are all out running your cars!!!!
  13. Hi all. Does any one know where in the UK I can buy a Serpent F180? I've looked every where and for the life of me I can find one. Not helped but the awful Serpent distro flash site where the links don't, er, link!!!. No luck on Ebay either. I may well be interested if any one wants t sell me one. But really I want the kit to build. Cheers in advance.
  14. Thats one smoothie I don't want.
  15. With out any actual reason, I always thought the number related to amps ratings.
