Well it's taken a while but the last screw just went in!

Now - consider that I swore to keep a detailed set of build photos as we went from this....

...to this....

Coupled with one of these...

....and you see where I get my username!

Shakedown run is planned for this evening.

The build was relatively easy but I really need to find a screwdriver that effectively works the MA01s. I have about 5 Phillipsheads that are "almost there" but they all round off really easily if you're not careful, makes the build risky and physically painful as my hands are bruised from pressing the screwdriver so hard to stop it slipping.

Any suggestions?

That aside the only problem was two missing hex's for the wheels on the "b-tree". I've borrowed them from my old Cavalier FF. Not much left on that poor car now!

Anyway. Just wanted to share the joy!

Now I need to decide what colours to do on the shell..

Looking good!

The screws are all J.I.S - Japanese Industry Standard - not Philips. The geometry is slightly different so the don't fit properly and round out the heads if you're unlucky. The Tamiya tool sets are JIS and fit perfectly, alternatively any place that sells Japanese bike or car parts should have a selection of suitable screwdrivers.

Tamiya ones are cheap from Banzai but take a while to get here. If you have a 70s classic bike in the shed the one in the tool kit should be perfect

This is the only set I can personally vouch for, though I left one of the hex bits in a car I have long got rid of and it annoys me every time I look at the empty space in the holder - aaaaah, dumb @@s!!!!

I managed to take the buggy out last night for it's maiden run. Mostly low speed just to bed it all in, with a couple of quick blasts to high power toward the end.

I'm really surprised by how well it goes and handles on stock equipment. I think the stock springs are comically poor though. Press it down by hand and it won't even rebound to normal height without help. The extra spring compressors help but it's still quite poor. Guess that's them incentivising me to visit the hop ups page right away!

In any case, I'm really pleased with the new addition to the fleet and I'm looking forward to getting the shell sorted out and getting some proper running in!

About the springs, it is just fine to loose some ride height when you manually compress the suspension down. This means that the suspension is able to extend when you drive over bumps and holes, keeping the wheels in good contact with the surface.

Shame they [Tower Hobbies] list it as a Philips though - just perpetuates the myth!

I run lighter weight oil (schumacher 30wt) in my Neo Scorcher and the two large pre-tensioners from both sets of shocks plus a next largest one on just the rear shocks as like you I found the power of the rear springs was not quite up to the job. Once I had done this it gives a very nice handling car on my local club track (smooth high grip astro with quite large jumps). I have upgraded my Neo somewhat though.

I'm hoping that it'll wear in a little. It's a strange setup as stock.. The springs don't seem powerful enough when it's stood still but then when you drive along it seems too stiff and bouncy.

The dampers seem too stiff, but the springs with the helpers are probably about right, now they have the "extra compressors".

Had a great run out tonight. The battery is clearly coming good now. Ran it for an hour (albeit quite a lot of it at very low speed walking to and site) and the battery was still punching hard at the end.

No issues to report. Brilliant model!
