LiPO Battery, ESC and motor combo

Eventually I will go brushless but for now I'm going to take step 1 and use LiPo power in my TRF 201X racer. I got to thinking about my planned power set-up and I wonder if it's safe. Maybe you guys who know more about this and are better at maths can tell me if I can run with this or if I should make changes. I don't want to melt anything my first day at the track!

LiPo battery: Onyx DTXC1964 5000mAh 7.4v 35C 37Wh 2S. I also have an Onyx 5000mAh 7.4v 25C 37wh 2S that I bought for my sons Desert Gator which is running a TBLE-02S / Sport Tuned motor.

ESC: I plan to use the Duratrax IntelliSpeed 12T used in conjunction with an external low voltage alarm. Here are its specs

Motor: Tamiya SuperStock BZ. Tamiya USA doesn't have any specs listed for the BZ. :( Here are the specs for the RZ since it's closely related to the BZ. As near as I can tell, the only difference in the specs is that the RPM for the BZ is 26,500.

I know I don't want to feed the ESC too much power but I have no idea how to determine if either of these two batteries is "too much". :huh:

The SuperStock BZ motor is the same as the TZ motor, just shipped with a dust protection foam. The TZ is a high torque oriented motor meant for offroad application, hence the T in the name.

The SuperStock RZ motor is a bit different, since it is a high RPM oriented motor meant for onroad application.

Why not go for a shorty or super shorty pack? They're all the rage in 2WD offroad.

I got batteries that were as close in dimensions to the NiMh packs I have for maximum compatibility. Maybe that was wrong headed thinking? :huh:

I don't think so. I have looked at saddles and shorty pack but I figure that by the time I'm good enough for them to make a difference my stick packs will be ageing and suitable for just bashing, then I'll change.

They look OK to me and that lipo has masses of headroom for more powerful brushless setups.

That was my plan. Use what I have for now (the IntelliSpeed 12T and BZ motor) then upgrade to a nice brushless ESC/motor down the line in like 6 months. I wanted the batteries to work for the future setup but I didn't want them to burn up the current one.

Batteries can never have to much power. They do not deliver it, it is drawn from them so you can have to much motor for the battery but never to much battery for the motor (assuming you get the voltage correct)
