qatmix 794 Posted January 28, 2016 Hi Guys I might be getting a 4 wheel truck from a friend. I wondered, how much would it cost (roughly) to change the chassis so that it had 6 wheels. (Its a Man truck) Thanks
Tamiyabigstuff 832 Posted January 29, 2016 If you really want a 6-wheel MAN truck I would just buy the kit and build it. Cost to convert the 4-wheel version ? Just a rough estimate, but I doubt you will see much change out of £60 - £80 by the time you have bought all the bits.
qatmix 794 Posted January 30, 2016 I can get the 4 wheel man for £90 (Its half built but my mate has given up on it) thanks
Tamiyabigstuff 832 Posted January 30, 2016 You can download the manual for the 6-wheel version from the Tamiya website and then compare the parts listings to see what you need and see what the costs will be. You will need at the very least the longer chassis rails, 2 more pair of rear wheels, 4 tyres, additional axle casing, diff parts, axle shafts, prop shafts, plastic parts for rear mudguards. £90 for the truck sounds like a good price.
Nobbi1977 1793 Posted January 30, 2016 I can get the 4 wheel man for £90 (Its half built but my mate has given up on it) thanks For that price you can finish it off and sell it at a profit to fund what you really want
qatmix 794 Posted January 31, 2016 I might just make it with 4 wheels. I suppose the big thing about them is that they have a 3 speed gearbox. I cant see how it will handle any more differently with 6 wheels other than it will not be as responsive. Maybe I should just spend another £100 and get a trailer as that would be more fun than having two more wheels. For that price I should just get it and have a play.. anyone fitted a brushless to it? Definetly worth spending the extra money and getting a trailer, I don't think the extra axle will make that much difference if you are running on-road. I've fitted a 1/8 Ezrun brushless kit into my 6x6 truck that uses the 3speed gearbox, it was way too much power with 3S, the truck pulled wheelies on a rolling gearchange from 2nd to 3rd. That was a 2000KV 4274 motor. Even on 2S it was too powerful for the chassis. I'd suggest that the standard 540 that comes with it is fine, a lot of people put crawler motors in them rather than trying to go faster.
Backlash 481 Posted February 3, 2016 Qatmix.. A year or two ago, I converted a Mercedes 1838ls 4x2 into a 6x4, seeing as we have very few 4x2 1:1 trucks here in Australia.. All that I did was buy the wheels and tyres, the bogie spring setup and a second drive axle and mounted them on the original chassis rails.. Admittedly the drive shaft isn't all that long, but I do like the look, and it did match the 1:1 that I was copying.. There is a guy named Gareth Price in the UK who runs an eBay store under the name of catmand11, and he sells all sorts of parts to allow you to do the conversion that you are wanting to do.. qatmix 794 Posted February 3, 2016 Thanks for the reply. Your truck looks great. I think I will go for just the 4 wheels and spend the extra on hop-ups or a trailer.
Sayer 742 Posted February 11, 2016 the truck pulled wheelies on a rolling gearchange from 2nd to 3rd. That was a 2000KV 4274 motor. This sounds like the opposite of a deterrent to me.
