Brushless for TT-02b

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I've just built a TT-02b Neo Scorcher.

Currently I'm running HobbyKing waterproof Trackstar 4250kv with a 80A ESC and stock pinion. The car is fast enough but I would like a little bit of more oomph in it. I'm therefore considering changing the motor and ESC for something else. I just don't know what, though it has to be waterproof.

Ive looked some on the Hobbywing SC8 120A ESC combo that is available with a 3656 motor in either 3400kv, 4000kv or 4700kv. I just don't know if the 3400kv or 4000kv would be the right choice for this car.

Do anyone have any suggestions or maybe tips on another motor option?

Other hop ups the car has is eagle racing alu shaft, universal joints, ball diff's and alu front and back knuckles. Yeah Racing alu motor mount and alu main drive shaft joints. Eagle racing alu dampers and the Tamiya full turnbuckle set is on its way on as well.

I'm running a 2s 30-40c 5000mah turnigy lipo currently.

After reading some review about my motor/ESC combo I don't want to try 3s until I've got another ESC on order. Seems like some guys have popped it by connecting a 3s.

Mine went like a scalded rat on the 4370kv 9T trackstar motor and a 2S lipo with the standard 17T pinion gear. The 13.5T 3040KV it has now is markedly slower, even to the point of poor at the to end. It can I believe take a jump in pinion to 20/21T as it is more torquey so I think I will try a 20T pinion to get my top end back.

How is the acceleration with the 3040kv?

Please report back how it works with 20T pinion. What ESC do you have?

Mine is plenty fast enough on the 4250kv. Though I would like some more acceleration.

I'm guessing the hobbywing motors have a little more torque than the HK. Maybe the 4000kv with stock pinion and 2s would be a good middleway.

The acceleration on the old setup was brutal with a decent top end. The 13.5t has plenty of acceleration just no top end. It accelerates really quickly and first time out it was like hitting the rev limit in 2nd gear. The 20t is ordered so we'll see what its like maybe this weekend.

Ended up ordering the 4000kv combo. Very exciting to see how it compares to the HobbyKing 4250kv motor.

Hmmm, 4000kv on 2S should be able to rip the transmission apart, unless the gearing is very wrong

Well again I am left cold by the 13.5T and 20T pinion, still loads of acceleration but lacking in the top end, wonder if I should go for something like a 23T now?

Keep going taller until it thermals I suppose, then back off a tooth?

That was my thought, ran fine with no heat issues at all for a race on Sunday in warm temperatures, so I can go bigger, there is still a fair bit of adjustment space on the JazzRC motor mount too.

Got the Ezrun SC combo a couple of days ago but have not had the time to try it out until today.

Had to put on the 68 tooth spur gear since I didn't have any larger than a 19T pinion. Motor gets a little warm with setup. Going to order a 20T and 21T to try with.

I have nothing other than my HK Trackstar combo to compare with but compared to that it has a lot of more power. Can't wait to try it with 3s.

I have now put on the 21T pinon and some Proline Caliber tires. With the larger wheels the rear diff (original) couldn't take it and you could hear it skipping when accelerating. Got a pair of steel DF-02 diffs today and assembled one of them and put in the back. Front still has a Eagle ball diff.

The car now makes wheelies on asphalt :)
